Does the 1500 mainshaft stick out past the bellhou

Uhhhh, I have no idea what that's supposed to mean. What I'm asking is, if you sand the tranny staight up on the bellhousing with the tailshft pointing up in the air, will the mainshaft protrude enough to touch the ground, or will the transmission bellhousing sit flat/ flush on the ground.

Yes- the .500" diameter shaft sticks out 1.00" past the bellhousing.

hmmmm, .486 and .717.....

And that extra inch is really handy when it comes time to knock the bellhousing loose. Rest it on the shaft and let fly with the BFH.

I think the term you're looking for is "input shaft". In most cases the answer is yes, because the extra length is needed to get to pilot bushing, however I am no 1500 tranny expert, so I can't answer your question, but I think you going to have to a tranny and get that exact measurment.

Yeah Hap, I meant to say input, but I've been reading so many parts catalogs, exploded views and stuff online everyone is calling it something different. That's just it, the only 1500 tranny I have is still in my car, thus I ask. Not allot of 1500 Midget stuff floating around down here. I have more 1275 stuff than anything....and I don't have a 1275 car (well, at least not all together.)

Well I know from experience that BillM has handled at least a few of these (British 1500's and their transmissions), so I'd go with his measurements.
You might want to double check with him that he's giving you specs for the British transmission and not the Datsun - but my bet is that they are about the same - don't know for sure but that's what I'd bet.

I'm quite sure it sticks out just as Billm said. I think it sticks out the narrowed diameter that goes into the pilot bushing. I'm positive the three rail trans does and since you can bolt a single rail into the same spot, it should be the same. But, if I can remember, I will measure one tonight.
