1969 TR6:

Complete 100% clutch system replaced with
new components 16 months ago. 1,800 miles
driven on the new clutch.

My new clutch master cylinder is 3/4 inch low
on fluid.

Is this normal and I just top it off?

Or is a problem developing I need to deal with?

I'm not looking for trouble but I had a bit of
difficulty getting the tranny into reverse.

thanks,

d

I would say not normal for the few miles you have on the system. Look along the fluid path to see if you can identify any seepage.

Do you have any evidence of brake fluid at your feet on the floor or in the engine compartment? Any evidence of fluid where you park the car?
Where did you purchase the M/C and what type of fluid are you using?

<span style="color: #660000">All parts except the braided SS hydraulic hose
were purchased from TRF. No oil on the floor of my car
but pools underneath on the concrete. I was not able to pull off
the flywheel to replaced the leaking rear engine seal.

That's really the only leak I am aware of. I replaced all
the other leaking seals on drive trane and new brake wheel cylinders.

I need to purchase some clutch oil- I have none.

thanks,

Does seem a bit much, but I sure wouldn't go tearing into things, with nothing more than that as symptom. Might just be "bedding in" wear from all the short trips.

Note that the reservoir is not supposed to be filled to the top; there should be a ring inside that indicates "full". And I doubt even 3/4" down from that mark is the source of your hard shifting problem (which seems to be common on TR6).

Look for anything else that might limit clutch movement, like worn pivot pins or holes. The pivot on the clutch pedal is particularly suspect, since most people never think to put a drop of oil on it.

If that is 3/4 from the top of the reservoir, then it sounds to me like you might be overfilling it to start with?? As I recall the "full" marker is something like 1/2 inch down.
In any case as long as there isn't air getting into the system that isn't the problem.
Can you lift up the clutch pedal? If you can lift it up substantially there is allot of wear there and you are loosing a good percentage of the clutch travel.
