Choosing the proper inner tube

A question about inner tubes.

My Bugeye has steel wheels. My tires are Kumho Solus TA11, size 155/80 R13 79T. I want to order a spare inner tube (from Moss) and they have two available: 145/155 x 13" and 155/165 x 13" Which one should I order?

Neither... they're junk. Find a local tire store and see what they have. You may be able to run the stock wheels tubeless. If you have rims that are not riveted to the center but welded it should work fine and if riveted a good sealer around the rivets might do the job.

Nomad,

Good to know. They are stock wheels and I have been assuming they have tubes..... (because my TR3 had wire wheels with tubes -- for obvious reasons)... but I may be assuming wrong about the Bugeye. Rather than take the wheels off to check, I'll ask the guy who sold me the car and put the new tires on it.

But just in case, what size tube would be right for these tires/wheels?

Many thanks.

Hey, call British Wire Wheel in Greensboro. I just had Allen tune mine and he put in some HD racing tubes. As above, not Moss or TRF... He's sure to know the answer for your steel wheels.

I've not run tubes on the stock Bugeye wheels (mine were the welded ones, not the riveted ones). Never had problems.

I just looked in my Horler book (Original Sprite & Midget) and it does mention that they were tubeless.

Some rims in that day were still riveted but apparently, Drew, the BE wheels were not. On my 65 with wires I fitted some new Falkan tires and thought I might as well fit the correct tubes rather than the common offering of a generic tube supposed to fit 13/14/15 inch tires. Moss offering of 13 inch tubes were my choice. I made 50 miles before a tire went flat in the middle of heavy traffic and I severely damaged one of my new tires before I could pull off. The tubes are about as thick as balloons used to be and on close inspection the failure was at a place where you could plainly see that a bunch of little rubber balls were not correctly fuzzed together. I'm now running old Dunlops! I'll take any you guys want to throw away!
