Carpet - PO apparently didn't like glue...

I'm replacing the brown carpet in my Sprite with black carpet.

My PO was apparently not a fan of glue, however he seems to have had a near endless supply of stainless screws and finish washers. I suppose it's all about choices.

I've got all the screws removed and all the holes sealed with black RTV.

What a job.

Next I bought a big can of 3M spray glue, and I'm now going out to put in the new carpet set.

At least it's sunny here this weekend, above 60 degrees too.

Rick -

Take you time. If a guy like me with 2 left hands can do it - yours will look awesome.

Heh - well the kit I got seems like it's for a later car.
At least the pieces that were not the right size & shape were large enough that I could cut them.

The carpet is in.

The pieces over the humps are glued in, the pieces on the floor are not - so I can remove them if they ever get wet.

The roll bar is reinstalled.

It does look nice, there are a couple gaps but when the seats are in they won't be visible.

I'll go take a picture now.

My first carpet job, including removal and reinstall of a roll bar, all in less than 3 hours.

Not bad if I do say so myself

I got it done with less than a half a can.
Hope I did it right...

Here's is how she looks now.
I put the seats in just for kicks.
The sun is shining pretty good right now, but I still had to brighten the images a bit to see detail on the black carpet.

Looks great. I really like your dash. My friend did a wooden dash and I think they look super.

heh - I'm going to redo all the panels in either black or red - haven't decided which yet.

The dash is brown vinyl, it too must go.
I'm thinking black vinyl at the moment but that may change.

Man I'm bone tired, also did some other odds & ends.
Haven't even picked up & put away tools yet. Tired.

Gotta take care of the tools & get some beers. :thirsty:

How are you going to check and fill the tranny with the carpet glued down? I had to rip the carpet off the hump after I got my car and lost the gear box driving home because the carpet was glued down and box not checked for oil. The carpet did not fare well.

Yours looks great.

I have a wood dash, just redid it all over the winter in fact.
Here's a before picture.

ooh - wouldn't those be trannies??

In my case there is an underlayment padding and the carpet is glued to that but that isn't glued to the tunnel.

Now that is one sharp dash. I like the top edge done in wood.
My friend kept the stock top edge. I like your version much better. That's some serious craftsmanship.

That's the plan, though I saw one with red recently and it looked really sharp.

First I have to finish the seats, then get it driving, then details like the vinyl on the inside of the doors
