TR4/4A Carpet....Black or Charcoal Grey?

Trying to decide on which one of the above colours to go with my black vinyl seats and trims....car is painted light green.
All black?.....A little contrast using the charcoal?
Quality loop pile or tufted/cut pile?
Comments welcomed.

My understanding is that all original carpets were grey. I used the grey loop from Moss - a very nice kit.

Not true (gray) for TR4A's, same color as seats. TR4's yes I believe gray was standard on all.

OP has a TR4 - and yes, so far as I know they were all delivered with grey loop. Since his prior posts seem to express an interest in 'original/correct' the decision may already be made.

Yes according to the "Triumph Register of America TR4/4A Judging Guidelines" the TR4 came with the Salt and Pepper Gray Loop carpeting only and it was not until the TR4A that Wilton Wool cut pile in several colors became available in the TR4/4A series cars. Black, Red and Midnight Blue were the original TR4A carpet colors available.

Also for the TR4, rubber mats were originally provided for the footwell floor carpeting and not the Salt and Pepper Gray Loop carpeting. Those original style floor mats are no longer available and the modern carpet suppliers supply carpeting pieces for those two areas of the floor from the front edge of the seats the the mat clips located several inches up the firewall from the forward most part of the floor. Not sure, but I believe the TR4A came from the factory with carpet in this area.

I have the same Moss carpet set Mink and it is very close to the original carpeting that was in my car.

TR4A's came with the rubber mats forward of the seats. They tore easily.

I seem to recall malbaby indicating it was a mix of TR4 and TR4A but I thought it was mostly TR4A based on some of his other posts.

I brought this up in another post as well as I had questions on my own car. It is #CT/16836-L so it's not a very early TR4, BUT when I pulled the incorrect carpet up that my grandpa put inI did notice some snaps underneath there. In Piggott's book he states that rubber mats were snapped down and indeed there was no carpet from front of seats to the firewall (but on the sills, kick panel, etc) in early TR4's. I still have the original mats and haven't looked to see if there are snaps in them. I'm guessing mine was carpeted up front, but then why are those snaps there? Did all cars have those? And does anyone know what chassis number it may switched over? It wasn't mentioned in Piggott's book and he states that once it was switched to full carpet there was a rubber bad, not mats, on the driver side.
