Bosch Fuel Pump Problem

I have just recently installed a Bosch Type 0 580 254 910 fuel pump on or TR6 injection (to replace the origianl Lucas Pump which was causing problems on hot days) and also a pre line 13mm inlet/outlet fuel filter Type 14001 on our TR6. After fitting the new Bosch pump the problem I have now is that it overworks for some reason - that is it runs with a high pitched sound and seems not under fuel pressure. The TR is still getting fuel and is still driveable
If you stop the TR, turn the engine off and leave a minute and turn it on again the fuel pump works fine. If you go for a run, then about after about 3 miles the overworking high pitched sound begins again. Has anybody had a similar problem when fitting the Bosch pump and is there a remedy to fix. The bosch pump has been installed just above the chassis rail under the back left-hand mudguard.

I've never heard of any problem with any Bosch products. I use Bosch plugs, spark plug wires, distributor cap, rotors, points etc, and I must say they are very high quality. Good luck finding out whats wrong.

It sounds like the pump is somehow getting air into it. Suction leak?

I agree. You didn't explain why you replaced it, but perhaps the original fault still exists. Check for loose or cracked or crimped hoses and connections between the tank and pump. Sometimes, old hoses will collapse under suction.
Since you disturbed the lines, some crud may have broken loose and clogged your new filter.
Check to see that the tank pickup isn't clogged or damaged in some way.
Be sure that the fuel tank vent (or vented cap) is OK.

Hello Kevin,
could it be that the pump is too high in relation to the fuel tank, as I believe the Bosch pump does not prime as well as the Lucas unit?. I have heard of people using a low pressure pump to feed Bosch units in this application.
I tackled the problem in a different way, with two Lucas pumps, main and standby. See below.
