Hi guys

Can some one tell me how the drainage channel is fixed on the rear of the BJ7 / BJ8 cars, does it envolve respray work to the rear shroud? or is there some clever fixing detail that I can't figure out. Some piccys would be nice too.

This picture (by others) would indicate that it's removable. We're looking at the bottom of it in this view:

Thanks Randy.

Not quite the answer that I am looking for, but it is a start.
My photo. Let me know if you need more? Car is still apart so additional details can be photographed if needed.

Can't tell by your question if you are trying to remove it, install it repair it etc. It is fixed to the rear shroud with either rivets or small screws. It mounts on the back side of the shroud lip so the only reasonable way to mount it is when the shroud is off the car. If you mount it on the front(passenger compartment side)of the shroud you will not be able to get the chrome finisher piece on.

I have removed the soft top to get a clear picture of the bolts holding the rear wings as I am in the process of replacing the sills (Rockers?) and the flooring. The drivers side is finished and the passenger side is to follow. The rear hood bow is shot and the drainage channel is in a dire state. The car is a rolling restoration, meaning that I drive it about between phases of the resto. It came to me that it may be an easy option to replace the drainage channel rather than to try to repair it insitue, but I can not see how it is fixed to the shroud. I can see that it is on the back lip of the shroud but where are the fixings? I have not yet removed the chrome strip, are they under that?

 I knew the "owner" would be on top of this, once I flushed him (you) out!

Bob,
Yes I believe that the fixing rivets are under the chrome trim. The screws holding the chrome trim on may also be a fixing point.

Did you get the drain channel sorted, I have yet to fit mine and would be interested to hear how it all goes together and any pictures you have.

I don't have pictures, but I can tell you that the gutter can be installed with the rear shroud on the car. I did it on my BJ8. I also found that the body work filled all the holes that held it on. So with two people, if you hold it up in place you can make where the holes are and poke and Ice Pick through the body filler to get the holes open. Then it was a issue of body contortions to get the rivets in.

Hi guys

Visited AH Spares and Head4Healeys yesterday and walked away with a reduced bank balance and a load of parts.

I have decided to postpone the work until after the Goodwood Revival and then remove the back wings and the rear shroud and fit the channel that way. The boot (trunk) floor is rusted through and the PO used foam filler to plug the holes and I figure that taking the shroud off will gain better access.

Talking to Bill Rawles, the drain channel can be installed without removing or disturbing the shroud, but you have to do a bit of cutting and splicing to get it in, did you find that Jerry, or did you go part way by taking the wings off and removing the side fixings for the shroud and lifting it to remove and replace the channel?

I did not have the rear fenders on, or the back seat in place when I installed the drip channel. I cannot remember if I had to loosen the front of the shroud, but I don't remember doing that . No triming of the channel was done. It was a tough fit, but it made it.
