You need to read this ad! "E-Type" on Ebay!

Hi Folks,

Even though I spend most of my time here cause I really love Triumphs. My 1st. love affair is/was/will be with an "E-Type" Jag.

There`s one For Sale on ebay right now with a day left.

The Listing # is: 150299303250:

Now I ask you after you read the "Question and Answer" section; "Who`s scamming Who"?

The Seller has a 100% rating with over 200 Listings.

The gent who bought the Jag has next to nothing.

The Seller shows quite a few "Full Size" pics.

The gent who bought the Jag; Seems to be vague about showing "Full Size" pics.

The gent selling the car now says he has $30K into it but yet; There is no reserve & Its "All the Way" up to $6K with 1 day left.

I sent in some comments that the gent who bought the car should show some "Full Size" pics of the car & a few other comments that have "NOT" been posted.

So; What do you think? Is the Orig. Seller the Scam Artist or the gent who is currently selling the Jag the scam artist?

Curious,

Russ

Russ -

Don't know if this addresses your questions, but I'd stay far away from this one altogether!

Sounds like the original seller was the scam artist......or an unscrupulous dealer. In the question section for this auction he says he's got an attorney and is going after the dealer. It looks to me like he's giving a pretty accurate description of the car and just wants to unload it at this point. Somebody might get a deal when the auction ends.

It was the original seller. The guy selling this car now is just trying to cut his losses.

Russ,

If you want a Jag E project, contact Rich here on the forum. His TR3 is all done now and he wants to sell the XKE with a lot of new parts ready to go on it.

Hi Paul,

Spoke to Rich. I`m thinking about it. I`m thinking about what I can get for $17K & drive now or $17K & drive yrs from now?

I just don`t know what to do?

Thinking about it.

Thanx, Russ

The car is only 15 miles from me. The only Jaguar Specialist in the area is a customer of mine, but I didn't notice the car when there last week. I will have to check again sometime this week.

Re: You need to read this ad! "E-Type" on Ebay!

He could always use the Ebay buyer protection insurance. OOOOOPS! He bought it outside of Ebay because he was much smarter than the average Ebayer.

I don't feel bad for guys that try to buck the Ebay protection system to save a few bucks, it never works out on high dollar items. I read the original listing from the guy in AZ and the new owner has embellished what was stated originally. It went from "<span style="font-style: italic">This E is in very nice shape inside and out.</span>" to "<span style="font-style: italic">excellent condition in & out</span> (as <span style="font-style: italic">stated in his ad</span>)" That's an outright lie right there. The guy never says that in the original ad.

I'm no lawyer, but I don't think he stands a chance of getting anything back from the seller or else he'd end the listing and pay one of those many lawyers that seem to be stalking Ebay hoping to help poor souls in their time of desperation. Seems like those messages are a bunch of crap from the new seller to try and scare the guy that he says screwed him. He screwed himself, plain and simple.

Here's a perfect example of why NEVER to accept a second chance offer on Ebay.

Quite the opposite. I think this is a good example of why accepting a Second Chance Offer THROUGH eBay can make sense. If done "officially" you get the same $20,000 Buyer Protection as a straight auction win. If $20,000 is not enough comfort, then maybe a little up-front investment in a look/inspection is in order.

Hello Stirkle,

I totally agree with you.

Russ

PS: The auction has ended. What did he sell it for; If he sold it?

Hi James,

Well; I guess this guy must have learned a lesson? If your going to drop $30K on a car; You`d better have asked a heck of a lot of questions or better yet; Have someone look at it, if you can`t.

He just had an enlighting education! Poor Guy? I personally don`t think so.

Enough out of me,

Russ

For that sort of money you HAVE to have someone local inspect the car - <span style="font-weight: bold"> have to.</span>

"Used car dealer" on "Used car dealer" crime. When is it going to end? At least the second dealer can finally relate to some of <span style="font-weight: bold">his</span> customers over the years.
Karma. (did I spell that right?)

A legitimate 2nd chance offer is done through eBay and is covered by eBay. The intent is to protect the seller when someone wins an auction but never pays. eBay then lets you do a 2nd chance to the next highest bidder.

This guy did his whole purchase outside of eBay. Evidently the car didn't meet the seller's reserve but the seller contacted some bidders after the auction closed and arranged the sale outside of eBay. I feel sorry for the buyer but seller was just taking advantage of the buyer's greed in knowing that he wanted to buy the car.

Re: You need to read this ad! "E-Type" on Ebay!

I spoke to my customer today, and he was the Jag specialist the car went to for servicing. He said they got the car running, but it would need a lot more to make it a nice car.

He thought $12.6k was a reasonable price.
