wanted A type overdrive

Hi Bill,
I can get a rebuilt transmission with an overdrive for 2400 and the conversions are 2800 I dont see the benefit for me. I only need the overdrive as a core. do you have just the OD or is it a complete transmission and OD together?

It is currently in my car. I don't know where you are getting the new one but that sounds a bit high on the price.
You may want to call Dean Houston at 772-398-7007. He rebuilds them and may have one in stock.

I know a guy in CT who has a crated, completely rebuilt transmission that was scheduled to go into his TR3 that I know has a type A on it. He sold the car prior to starting his planned frame off resto and wants to sell off a ton of new or rebuilt parts still in boxes or the crates that he never used. If you are interested, let me know and I'll put you in touch with him.

J-types are still plentiful, A-types are becoming a precious commodity. As the Triumph family enjoys it new-found popularity and many folks want to restore to near-concours condition, A-types are beginning to be worth some serious money, especially if they are period-correct.

I retro-fitted a J-Type in my 72. Sourced it from Quantum. I absolutlely love it, it shifts fast and is smooth as silk.

Unless you really into originality, you might want to consdier the J. As Bill said they're cheaper and easier to find. And from what I've read a little more reliable than the A.

Don,
Are we talking about the same concours judges that I have seen at VTR. I have seen them down on their knees looking just for that.....

As I understood the guideline, a judge is allowed to peer under the car "with only one knee on the ground". I prefer to choose my spots if I can and park where the grass is a bit damp or wet and long.

Hondo, if the deal works out for you and the units need overhaul, give John Esposito at Quantum a call. He is one of the best. He did my J-type, had a mystery problem, and he stood behind me the whole way. Recommend him highly. I am sure there are others out there.

John is the very best at transmissions, actually all drive train components and is a very honorable businessman. His word is as good as gold in my opinion. I've been to his shop on several occasions and he's a treat to be around.
