Ahead of all the other things, as I mentioned before you should check the accelerator pump jets for blockage. It's not uncommon for them to have build-up from ethanol fuel mix if they sit for periods of time without having fuel run through them. The jet holes are SMALL and difficult to clean easily, too. But at least they're easily accessible without having to tear into the carb bodies.

Summit Racing and Red Line also have Weber bits.

And if you have a "jones" for expanding the tool collection, a set of pin gauges would allow you to measure the choke I.D. Otherwise a set of "I.D. dividers" would come close enough if you take your time and do it carefully:

Pardon the rust on the dividers, I'm the third generation owner. 😉

Hi Dr.

I’ve got all those tools, but unfortunately at my other house.

I’ll continue working this, and will certainly figure out where the accelerator pump jets are, and how to access them.

By the way - the good Dr. asked for compression numbers:

1 - 135 lbs.
2 - 130 lbs.
3 - 130 lbs.
4 - 150 lbs.
5 - 145 lbs.
6 - 160 lbs.

These were taken "dry" with the throttles wide open.

First three a bit low but shouldn't be a problem overall. Pump jets located and checked?

Forgot to refer to Pierce Manifolds for Weber jets an' such. Very helpful folks, too.

And didn't mean to be a poopy-head with the photo of the pin vises post, just underestimated your experience level with tools. Sholda known better with the cars you list in your signature file. Apologies! 😉

No problem. Not yet. Watched a couple videos about it, though.

Took the car out for a nice drive today. It was fun.

Very nice. I saw the background and thought has to be somewhere in the southwest, looked at your profile and saw Tucson. In a former life I used to get to spend time off and on at beautiful Fort Huachuca, mostly on radar stuff for the Army but some for the Customs Service as they were bringing the aerostats into the game of Feds and Heads (really the smugglers that supplied the heads). The Customs Service had an office at Davis-Montham so whenever we went to meet with them at that office, we always tried to arrange for a bit of time to kill so we could take a trip out to the D-M AFB boneyard.

Can't find an envy icon. But (y) !

Rocky, glad you got it out for a leg stretch.

I know I have been quiet lately, but….

I have gotten 3 Weber rebuild kits, air cleaner gasket sets, a can of carb dip, and cleaning brushes…

So fairly soon, I’ll start on them….

Sorry I’m mining sluggishly, it’s a busy time for me!

Good stuff though!

Pleased to see the kits.

And how timely that this should drop into my inbox, 5 Weber Spares Every Toolbox Should Contain

It's also a reminder that I have been somewhat remiss in keeping some of spares inventory up for maintenance items.

Particularly the O-rings on pump jet covers. I've had a devil of a time with those. In the last few years it seems they deteriorate rapidly. Blaming it on ethanol additive. Just went through the DCOE on the MG and the things crumbled to pieces.

We are working our way forward, and circumstances are driving me towards the rebuild….

Head has been reworked, and installed.

Note new Throttle cable bracket, And the “custom bracket” that it replaced!

The rocker assembly goes on tonight, And the manifolds may get bolted up tomorrow.

Weber anti-vibration seals have been procured, and the rebuild should start soon (maybe one done before our trip to LeMans Classic?).

I haven’t forgot about you guys. I’m glad you’re thinking of me!

Rocky

Wow, Rocky! That's quite a bit more in-depth than a carb rebuild! Looks like good progress though. Rocker assembly & manifolds on by now?

I just went through a similar deal with our MGB. Head off, reseated valves, replaced springs and seals. Had a devil of a time finding a ~good~ head gasket. Seems every maker has gone to some flimsy composite thing. First of those failed instantly.

That "reverse S-curve" cable stay is a "work of art"!! In other words, hang it on the garage wall. 😉

I'd be half ashamed to show what we did on a home-made Weber manifold for the MG to get the throttle cable rigged. Mr. R. Goldberg would be proud.

OK, got some questions on my efforts already.

1) Are these the air bypass screws? They look different than in the video that I’m watching.

2) Is my idle adjustment screw on the left messed up? It looks like the taper has been jammed in, and it was a turn and a half further and then the other one was.

CAA3C983-9DBB-4EFD-AFD8-899769035889.jpeg

3) why would my main jets look different at the end? These jets only seem to come apart in three pieces, the video I watched the guy got four pieces out of them.

Thanks for your help! Remember you guys started this!

Why does the right side choke plunger have that little pin, and the left side doesn’t?

Is that bad? I rarely use my choke ever anyway.
