So it's out that I have a turbo to play with so I figured I better start a topic on it and let everyone know that I'll keep up with updates. So in a way this is update #1.
I purchased the turbo recently off of ebay. First and foremost; I have no intentions of getting carried away. I plan on rebuilding my spare 1275 to accept the turbo and hopefully (dough permitting) having it ready to do a straight swap this summer. I plan on using it as a mild performance and economy boost, not a full out, full boost high-perf mod, kinda like it was originally intended on the original MG Metro.
I started the refurb and I can see already that the hard part is going to be finding replacement gaskets. Since these cars were never imported to the US, parts aren't readily available. The carb is an HIF-44 but my understanding is that it is a special version built to be pressurized. Otherwise, things are cleaning up nicely and there doesn't seem to be any excessive end-play in the turbine shafts. Should come together nicely!
Anywho, off to do some research and see if i can find gaskets somewhere on the WORLD WIDE web.
