Triumph Overdrive Shift Knob and Lever

The Spitfire has a working overdrive switch on the dash that I'd like to move to a Shift Lever Knob with the OD switch built in.

Is the lever and the knob available aftermarket., or do I have to shop around on ebay.
Is it just a question of routing the wires up the lever to the knob?

The stock units with the O/D switch in the knob were hollow with the wires running up inside the lever itself.

This setup was used on the later model Triumph sedans with O/D - I had a Spitfire and fitted a Triumph Dolomite O/D box with this setup. EBay or UK parts dealers are probably your best bet.

You can get the knobs, canley's ( www.canleyclassics.com ) has them, found under their product updates. I'm not sure about getting the shift arm though. Ebay has them every now and then. I don't believe I have one in my spare parts but I'll look.

They can be pretty expensive off ebay as they are no longer available through local sellers. As above, they are available through Canleys.

If you don't like it on the dash, you can put it on the steering column. I believe all the proper items for that are available.

My wife's Spitfire has the O.D. switch on the sterring column which is correct for a MkII. She has a later transmission but the cap on top of the shifter is quite expensiove we were told. Roadster Factory has the column switch.

Bruce - if I know the car in question then shifter is original and has room for the wiring. The shift knob appears to have been broken at some point hence the relocation of the O/D switch to the dash. You should be OK with just a new knob with the built in switch.

if you're correct and it is the car in question then that's good news. Someone I know had told me to wait until I get the car before ordering stuff. That's good advice.
