Trans Flush Update with Water
No I didn't flush my trans with water. Mother nature did. I filled up my trans with mineral spirits in the hope that it would free it up. No such luck. This morning I drained the trans and all that came out was mineral spirits and water. No oil.
So I spent all day pulling the engine. Fairly easy, but I will have to invest in a tilter. Got the trans off and pulled the shifter thing (where the shift rod goes, don't know what it's called) and it was really stiff. I pulled it apart, knocked the shift rod out and it was rusty. Stuck it in my drill press and polished it up, put it back together and it worked pretty good. I put it back on the trans and I could shift but not very well. It wouldn't stay in any gear, it also couldn't turn.I pulled the side cover and it was just a mess in there. Next I pulled the tailshaft housing and used a wrench on the tailshaft and got it to turn.
I don't know if it's worth tearing it completely apart or trashing it and getting another. I really can't afford a new trans right now, but I don't know if I'll ever trust this one.
