I am not realy sure here, but I think the 7 and 8 have different tranny mounts. I believe the 8 has a harder compound rubber. It's been a long time since I've had to deal with that. I make my own out of round aluminum stock. Pat, aren't you interested in autoxing your car? If so, you might want to look into using a solid mount. I need to make up another one for my soon to be road worthy street car. If I still have the right material laying around, I could make up a spare. Before you even ask, I can't comment on transmitted vibration to the driver. This will be the first road going car I have had in many years, so I don't know what it will do for driveability. I do know that it doesn't matter on the race cars. They are so stiff, that you can feel every bump out there. On a side note. My eurethane engine mounts for the BMW 2002 finally came in last night. They have been on back order from Ireland Engineering since last fall. I guess I can finally start my winter BMW project now. Good price at 90 bucks for the pair. It would be nice if stuff like that was available for the TR8. It gets frustrating seeing all of the go fast goodies available to your competition but not for the 8. I usualy end up making what I need.

First it is PATR8 as in Pennsylvania TR8, my name is Scott. Need to be more careful picking names in the future. My mount is shot so it feels like it is mounted on jello. All kinds of vibration coming thru now. Never thought of a solid mount but I do autocross my 8 around 10 time a year or more if I get a chance. Any idea when you are looking at making your mount up? Would you need measurements?

My 8 is still eating up engine mounts too. I go thru a pair a year and I have had the local speed shop look at it and they see no reason for them to prematurely wear. They say it is engine torque , ITHO.

I am looking at making a cold air induction system for my 8 now, taking measurments and looking to see if the local metal guru can do it for me. HAve you tried anything like that yet? Seems like it would be pretty easy to do.

I've seen some pretty crappy engine mounts coming thru lately. I saw one that Woody broke thru that almost brand new. When Woody showed me the broken one, we talked about welding up a broken mount to make it solid. I would think that using a solid tranny mount should help relieve some of the stress on the engine mounts. In the class that my car used to run in, I had to keep the stock induction system. It drew fresh air from the front vents. I've since switched over to a different class. I now have an Edelbrock intake and a AED carb. So far I just have a 14 inch drop base and a K&N filter. It would not be too difficult to fab up some snorkels and attach them to the stock fresh air intakes. I currently don't have my race car at the house. I am building a roll cage in a beetle and then have to build one in a 914/6 and a 944. When I am finished with those, I will retrieve my car and remove the tranny mount. Once it is out of the car, I will make up a couple of more. I intend on having my street TR8 back on the road before Carlisle, but that is a couple of months away.

Let me know when you plan on starting the mounts, I will be looking trying to get it done asap cause i would like to drive to valley forge/ I do not mind driving around here with it that way but it would be a long ride if it were to snap the mount

The engie mounts have me stumped, it is just the driver side, the passanger side always looks like new

I'll retrieve the race car as soon as I finish the VW. That will give me a chance to drop the mount and duplicate it. I'm leaving for Road Atlanta a week from today, so it will probably be after I get back.

Scott, my buddy up the road fabricated what you might call a cold-air induction for his modified TR8. As previously described in one of my posts, the box is shaped like the Triumph open-book logo and draws air from both stock front vents. Sounds hokey but is unbelievably kool. And quite functional. The cover is emblazoned with that same logo and the inside holds a K&N round filter. I will eventually capture some photos of this beast. My friend's handywork is so refined that it looks like something out of an industrial design studio. If that were something that I would have attempted, it would look as if it were made out of wood in comparison.
