Wedge TR7 fog lights and clock stopped working

Weird, the clock and fog lights stopped working on my TR7. I would assume the fogs go via the fuse box. I glanced at the clock, and the fog lights and clock seem to share something -- maybe a common ground somewhere? Hazzards didn't work, but I played with the switch and they came back.

Any ideas???? This is a non-AC roadster (so no rear screen heater either.)

Sam,
I assume you have the same fuse box I have in my '78. I used to have the time stands still issue with the clock as well, amungst other things. I took the fuse box out and cleaned all the conectors up, and straightened them so they wouldn't push in when a fuse was installed. I think when others have tried to use North American fuses, which are longer, it pushed the little clips out the back, not making a good conection. After I did that, the little things stopped happening, including the blower fan intermittancy. My fog lights, I think, must have been after market as the switch was on the left side by the choke cable pull. I never used it and removed it.
Your hazard lights will have a small chip, a relay, about half inch by half inch under the right hand dash. It just plugs into the ends of, I think, three wires. I had the problem with those too until I replaced the relay.
And, I got to check out my carb mounts today, and I think I will order the ones you purchased.
Good luck

Paul

Neither the clock nor the factory fog lights are listed as being on one of the fuses in the box...but are they? If so, which fuse?

I think the clock and fogs are unfused circuits. (brown wires)You might check the 4 way connector thing on the positive cable at the battery. The clocks on the 7 were supposed to be the most reliable ones, which explains why new ones bring a premium price and none of the gauge rebuild guys will fool with them. I have 4 none working ones here and was going to see if I could affect a repair on them, but as yet have not been successful. (big surprse)

The clock and fogs were both working perfectly until I kept taking the battery cables off and putting them back on during that 8month storage. Heck the clock was working a month ago, so maybe I pulled the wires at the connector or something...Thanks, Dale, I'll check out the battery connector.

Sam,

Woody Cooper of the Wedge Shop once advised me that the clock really needs to have a "jolt" if the battery is disconnected. So "kick start" the clock by disconnecting the battery and flicking the ground wire on the battery terminal several times. It worked on my car quite well.

I also thought my fog lamps had failed until I took the bulbs out and found them burned out and/or jarred loose at the connector inside the lamp. Mine seem to eat bulbs. My bulb source is Rovers North (800-403-7591) or www.roversnorth.com which carries the Hella bulbs at a very reasonable price.

Good luck!

My clock came back, but not my fogs. I'll have to use a test to see if the fogs are getting current. The switch was pretty nasty looking.

i used to kick start the clock on my fhc by tapping with a blunt object. fog lamps i would have to look at a wiring diagram.

Sammy:
Make sure you're testing the fogs with the headlights on. The wiring diagram shows that's how they get their power (unless you did some modifying like I did /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )

Yeah, I just noticed that on the wiring diagram. (Silly Sam keeps his wiring diagram in his home office, and not with the car!!!) I think I've tested them both ways, but it's possible I haven't.

But hey, at least the clock works!!! Now if I can only revisit that inoperable fuel sending unit at some point, too.

Ahh, the joys of TR7 ownership -- never a lack of electrical issues to maintain the fun. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
