I'd like to do this modification. I'd appreciate hearing from someone who has done this with body on frame. Can I get to all the areas that need welded with a MIG Gun? I'll be inspecting my frame and front suspension soon for cracks etc but will make the improvement regardless. I will have the suspension apart.

I think you can. It is mostly working through the wheel opening, isn't it? If the engine is out of the car you can hit it from the inside.

Dan, the engine will not be out of the car. I'll be working from the wheel opening or from below between the frame and oil pan. It will be on jack stands as high as I can get it.

Still I think you can do it. Those things can get all cracked up. I have a different frame section now, but my original frame was in really sorry shape in that area. Gusset kits were not available then, so we we just reinforced it with angle iron and welded it together. That was all done through the wheel well and engine compartment with the engine in place.

Dan, I've owned this car since 1969 and in 1988 I put a new frame under it that was in very good condition. The old frame had suffered as a result of me driving the car through 2 Pittsburgh salty winters in 1969 and 1970. At the time I installed the frame I did have some work done to the IRS rear components but didn't know about the need to add any support to the front suspension points. I do run wider wheels and performance tires and drive it aggresively. I'm just added an additional ounce of safety before I need it.
I appreciate your thoughts. You should consider coming to the British Car Day at the PVGP in July, I think you'd enjoy the weekend. 300+ British Cars. The show is put on by Western Pa Triumph Association for the PVGP.
