When you go on semi-long trips(100-250miles) what tools and parts do you usually carry? I plan to make a small box to carry but not really sure what to include as parts.

I keep a fan belt, hoses and an ignition tune-up kit on board all the time; nestled in the center of the spare tire along with a towel (to lay on). For longer trips (overnight), I might add an electric fuel pump with some hose & clamps plus a loaded distributor (with new points etc, cap & wires). But since I've never actually needed them, they are probably just wasted space.

Lug wrench, jack, jack handle and a pry bar for the hub caps are also in the spare tire well all the time. On board tool kit has an assortment of Whitworth wrenches and sockets, SAE wrenches and sockets, SU tool kit plus the usual screwdrivers, pliers, etc. Burnishing tool for points and VR contacts, set of feeler gauges and spark plug gauge. Tie wraps, 'baling' wire, assortment of nuts and bolts. Tool for the headlight rings. DMM and clip leads in a separate box, along with the registration papers, quart of oil, small bottle of DOT 5 brake fluid.

Driver's door has several flashlights (I really like the LED "head" lights), disposable gloves and of course the "budget lock" key.

And of course I always carry my "Tinker" model Swiss army knife, which has Philips and flat screwdriver blades as well an an awl, can opener, etc.

I keep a small took kit in the extra/unused battery box in the MGB (converted to a single battery). Basic necessary tools, spare points/condensor/spark plugs, bailing wire, duct tape, WD-40. Can pretty much disassemble the car with these bits. Also have my AAA card, credit card, and Moss' phone number. ;)

I traveled from St. Louis to N.C. in a GT6 for vacations in the 70's. I took 25lbs. of tools. Various adjustable wrenchs, hammer, pliers, elect. tape, duct tape, and a list of European suppliers in route. The reason for 25lbs. was due to the 400 lbs. cargo and passenger weight limit. Wife and I and tools, luggage and a cooler. I was within 25lbs. of total capacity.
We got to N.C. fine but on the way back going thru Gatlinburg we had a waterpump leak. Since we were staying in Gat. I went to my list and found the nearest auto parts and ordered the pump. The next morning we went to Knoxville and got the part then drove to Chattanouga, Tn and changed the pump next morning in the motel parking lot. Then on to Lynchburg and home. The GT6 made 40 mpg and did 100mph following the semis and when I got home I checked compression during a tune-up and found #6 cylinder down ( a mushroomed valve). Now I carry a full box and don't worry about weight as my cars are now bigger and can carry more. But, I still have a computer parts house list and cell phone for back-up. When travelling on vacation the list helps. We put 190,000 miles on that GT6 before selling it.

Cell phone and credit card.

Duct tape to repair things that are moving but shouldn't and a hammer to fix things that aren't moving but should.
