Replacement Keys

This morning I was making a list of stuff I need to get my TC2500 started (the one that hasn't run for 6 years) when I realised I've got a serious problem.

I've got the ignition key, but that's the only key I've got. I don't have any others! Worst of all, I don't have the petrol cap key, and I'm sure it's not the original petrol cap.

Where can I get replacement keys?
How can I get the petrol cap off?

The door locks shouldn't really be much of a problem. They all used pretty much the standard FS or FT key, and should be worn to the point that a similar key would work. If all else fails, a request to the heritage people would probably turn up the original key numbers. If you can find the manufacturer of the petrol cap then an e-mail might help turn up a solution there.

Try a locksmith. I recently called one to have a new lock installed on an airplane door because I never had a key for it. The guy came out and insisted on just making a key, didn't take him long at all (and he never removed the lock).

You will need the key codes which you may be able to read off the locks or (as mentioned) from your BMIHT certificate if you have one and if the locks are original.

Keys can be cut to code or you may even be able to get an original set of pre-cut keys as there are a couple of people out there with a 'collection' of these.

Going through this myself. Seem to have lost my original keys in our recent move (aarrrgh). I was so careful with them that I kept them in a special drawer and never actually used them in the car. They would have been safer in my pocket.

As for the gas cap -- your only hope may be having a locksmith impression the lock. How to impression a lock...
