Rear Brake Drums

I resentley purchased a set of rear brake drums for wire wheels from A.H.Spares, the drums that arrived are a new type with 5 holes in them,i thought i was getting a origenal type, i know the drake dust will leave quicker but what about rain water getting on the shoes?, they look great,but i think maybe their more for raceing? do any members have them and what do you think, Thanks, Mikkus

Hello mikkus,

I know which ones you're talking about here and it may be you either ordered the wrong ones by mistake or they sent the wrong ones.

If you can go back and check the part number you ordered and see if it is indeed these drums and take it from there.

If they made the mistake send them an e-mail explaining what happened and they should rectify the problem. How they will deal with the shipping issue I don't know but give it a try.

As far as using the drums on your car they can be used. But as you say, there is a possibility to get water in there. Yes being in CA we don't get as much rain as some places do and there isn't that much chance you'll be driving in the rain anyway. There is the possibility that living where you do you will get moisture in there and that will be the issue. Pretty soon you will have the brake shoes rusted onto the drums and you don't need that.

Hi Bundy, yes i emailed them and thats the only ones they sale, and they say there for street or raceing,they didnt replay to the water question, they should show a picture of them not the old drums.Dennis Welch( big Healey.com) sales them and showes a picture.ya the chances are good i wount get cought in the rain, but i do wash the car and spokes, then drive it to spin the water off, but as the saying goes" rust never sleeps", thanks for your time,maybe some member that has them will respound ,Take care, Mikkus.

The only way water will get in to the brake shoes is if you spray with a hose or driving in knee deep water. Front disks are completely exposed to rain. The rotation of the wheel itself keeps water from intruding. If the car sits a lot you may or may not have any difference in surface rust on braking surface in drums. I would be more concerned about dirt dobber nests if you dont drive much.

Yes Bundy, brk220, and its the only one they sale, the ones i have were machined wrong, there at the max,though they work they dont feel right, i desided to start over, Mikkus
