MGB MGB flap and air box

I can’t really see for sure, but there should be some welt between the crash pad and the top of the facia.
It's there, and proper black.
We did mine with white welting, just for the contrast. For the padding on the facia top edge I used a "pool noodle" carved it to shape with an electric carving knife. 😉

I was referring to OPs picture, Doc.
My B originally had white piping, so when I redo the interior I might steal that trick you have done.

As JP states, NO "permanent" sealant for the bezels. Scroll up to my #16 post above. Here's another llink >to Nisonger Instruments.< They sell the gasket set for all the gauges for skinny money, even with the cost of the shipping. Save yourself the aggro.

Otherwise, looks like some good progress!

That fitting for the oil pressure gauge had a small diameter flat seal for the seat, may still be in the ferrule? ISTR it was thin leather originally, but I may be mistaken. Again, no sealant, the fitting and ferrule are a tapered seat. Look for it on Nisonger's site at the same time as the gauge gaskets.

Keep us posted. 👍
Doc,
This Permatex form-A seal seals but does not bond , slow drying but does not harden and is easily removed
or 3M strip caulk it seems to have same properties ?

Hiya, D! The OP has the welting in between facia and pad, just in black.
My first B, a '66 had it in white, I did this one the same. Glad you approve of the added console.

Chris,
They will both likely turn gooey over time, not familiar with the Form-a-Seal but the 3M strip calk is a butyl and tends to change plasticity with temp. And it's VERY sticky! I'd not use it for a gauge seal. Tho I have used it on the bottom of MGB windshields.

Chris,
If you wouldn't mind, can you post the supplier of the o-rings? Plenty of folks from your continent could use a source closer to home.

And glad to learn you chimed it up with no issues! 👍

Doc,

I was refered to him by a member of the MG car club of Geelong , I was told he can supply all parts for many gauges .
Have a look at his web site it seems he specialises in Smiths and many others .
I left a message to call me I will let you know how I go with him.

Chris

Doc,
I ended up taking all gauges apart cleaned and put new o rings in they were oversized so cut then glued them to make correct size attached two photos one a close up of temp gauge I cleaned and re installed and working all went well.
A question the choke locking key is alright to use mild steel to make a new one
the current is worn and the choke does not lock?
Regards
Chris

Guage looks good, Chris.

As for that choke cable lock, the steel ring that "locks" the cable is spring steel. Mild steel is likely to fatigue and fail rather quickly. You ~may~ be able to fuss the "dimple" in the spring with a rounded punch, but frankly that's more trouble than it's worth, IMO. We replaced the cables that stopped working.

Sorry Doc,
I am talking about the cable lock which sits under spring steel collar a half moon shape bit of steel mine has a grove in it and it does not lock
from what I have observed they can be fashioned from a bolt of the same diameter count to the same width and cut in half to give that flat surface for the cable to lock against.
Chris

Ah... I mis-stood under you!

If you're inclined to spend the time doing it, it should work. But I'd still say just replace the cable, they're available with the same knob. Not like the earlier hex-shaped shaft end and smaller "C" embossed knob.

Doc ,
Finally made contact with Howard’s they don’t sell spares but will repair
Chris

Now I'm confused. Are you talking about the choke cable or instruments?

And of course we will want to see pix after you get them back and in place! 😉 👍

And I finally got around to getting a couple wide-angle photos of the dash here in our '64:

Chris,
Looking at the photos you'd posted earlier of your dash, I just noticed there's what appears to be an original 3rd/4th gear overdrive switch just right of the fuel gauge? I know yours is a later car, with the four-synchro gearbox. Does it also have the overdrive unit fitted?

If so, that's really nice to have! >jealousy icon here<

Ours here is the three-synchro box, no overdrive. The switch in the position is a headlight switch, intended for an eventual set of period Lucas "Flamethrower" lights. First position on the switch is for the fog lamp only, second position lights both pencil beam and fog. Just now I've a set of Lucas "Square-8's" mounted beneath the bumper, wiring and relays fitted.
