Magnette question

Ok here at the shop we are talking to a guy who is interested in buying our 64 Magnette. Our only real problem is we have no idea what to ask for it, as the last time Mitch sold one was over 20 years ago. If anyone could give me a ballpark figure of what they are going for that would be great. Thanks for any help.

I don't know how much use this information may be for you but Practical Classics Magazine's site shows UK values for all the Magnette models:

https://www.practicalclassics.co.uk/vehicle/by-id/863/finance.ehtml

Shows valuations for a MkIV and some dated auction prices for various MGs. There are other pages for the other models you can access.

You could also try looking at current and completed sales on the UK e-bay site:

www.ebay.co.uk

to see what's happening more recently with cars that may be comparable to yours.

Might be useful, might not. Hope it better than nothing....

I'll give you a hundred bucks. That's cash, mind you! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif I've always loved those cars.

I'll double Steve's offer... but only if you'd take a Discover card.

Thanks James, that was a helpful link. Ours isn't a driver, it was wrecked on the drivers rear quarter, and junked. Mitch originally bought it to use the carbs and the dizzy on his TD which he bought off a couple after it caught fire. He found another set of carbs, and another distributor, and the cars sat on the lot for 10 or 15 years now. I'm thinking we should ask around $750, and take $500 for it, the way I figure the carbs alone are probably worth close to $200-$250.

I've a couple of Magnette parts car as does Wray Lemke....solid body with good fenders should be worth $500 - carbs & suspension items just add to it...why don't you contact Wray, he's really into them?

So, is it a Farina Magnette or a ZA/ZB? Knowing that would be helpful to gauge the value. If it is a 64 -vs- 54, it would have to be a squarish Farina, not much call for them. I do know a couple of Farina owners that may be interested. I would be interested in some of the parts.

Tony, the Farina had pretty much the same dash setup, I believe, but used the later version of temp gauge and MGB type sending unit. That's what I'd like to get for the parts locker. You know the ZB sending unit is a very strange item, very rare, no direct cross from some other unit. It's a bi-metallic strip type of gizmo and works kind of like a temperature sensitive voltage stabilizer.

Wray - To Magnettes you're definitely no 'newbie'...I'm real curious now about whether it might be a Farina

...I bought my Farina because the interior & mechanics were so good & original - body's crap...but, they're rare...omeday I'll find a better body...until then, it doesn't eat anything & doesn't cost me anything to have it sitting in the garage next to the ZA

It is a farina, but it has been wrecked on the drivers rear quarter. If there is really that much interest in farina Magnettes, then I'll let ya'll know if the guy we are talking to isn't interested.

Yeah, I'd be interested in the driver fender & door - to start!
