Thanks for this tidbit...I have an early 74 (#337XXX) and it still has the chrome&rubber overriders. Does your book say when they went to the all rubber overriders??? I almost didn't buy mine because all of the 74's I had seen had the rubber ones...but at the show in Rothsville I saw another 74 with the crome and rubber ones...BTW, whoever's that was (front row, first space) the guy next door opened it up for me to check the numbers...thanks a LOT!!!

Thanks for the info! My car title indicates it was orginally title in NJ, but some of the parts records I got with it were bought in the mid 80's by someone in Huntingdon,PA...and I bought her from a guy in Frackville,PA. Another tread makes me wonder...how much (Many) taxes has my "foreign car" paid to the State? LOL

bruce,
the "commonwealth" collected sales tax on the car
($12), just this once. originally it came from
taxachussets and utah. other than title fees($26), inspection($18), and registration($36), they wont collect any more sales tax . i'm keeping the "B". but your right, how many times is a car taxed in its lifetime? i think the sales tax should be based on credit system relating to the age of the vehicle.
that would at least benefit the classic and antique car/british car crowd, and support the preservation and collection of classic cars.

I agree wholeheartedly with the above post. In the state of Wisconsin (the 4th most expensive state to reside in) used cars, no matter how old, are taxed when you go to register them, at a rate of 5.1%, in this county at least. The cars that change hands the most garner the most revenue for the state.

In the UK, in contrast, tax is paid on the new car and never again after that.

Florida has a 6% sales tax and you can expect to pay that on used cars (and can't register them until you do). That includes vehicles purchased out of state, unless you buy from a dealer that collects sales-tax for his state at which point you pay the difference in tax-rate (if the other state is 4% you pay 2% more to Florida when you bring it back).

Virginia had similar rules, except in most counties (all?) you also pay a yearly personal-property tax on your vehicle based on value. Of course the value is assessed by the county, which is good and bad. The last vehicle tax I paid in Virginia was over $500 (a couple years before that I was paying $750/year on the same car before they "devalued" it).

I understand those taxes have been relaxed or eliminated in many areas.

steve,
thats one of the benefits of living in the uk.
another one would be the selection of great british automobiles that would never be available here, such as the new mg's, vauxhaul, and others.

aerog,
i forgot to mention, its kinda sad that the state of virginia would charge residents a yearly tax on the value of their vehicle. i guess they consider it the same as real property.
i'd own a fleet of mg's.

I do own a fleet of MG's & that's one of the reasons I live in Alabama....pay almost nothing in taxes IF they're registered (about $5 per year!)...lots of back country roads where I can drive forever without seeing Smokey...&, only register/pay taxes on the ones I take out regularly on congested roads...

Chuck...Garage Mahal is ready for trusses...had to figure out how to support the roof where the new & old garages come together when the back wall of old garage is blown out! Garage Mahal will hold all 15 cars!

&, I pick up my lift tomorrow...can get cars up off ground to work on them comfortably

Mine's an August 74 Roadster #358250. The Sabrina bumpers were removed long before I bought the car. (I like the look without them better.)
