I'm sorry, I don't normally do this....trashing VB

I just got off the phone with Victoria's Secret, er, British, and was seeking help from someone, anyone, on a part that I had previously purchased from them (they are the only vendor that sells this particular part). Talking to them (3 different people) was a total exercise in futility. Man, I got absolutely no, none, nada useful information from them. They do not talk tech, period!. I knew that, but had to try anyway. At least the sales people at Moss and TRF are knowledgeable. At VB, you had better know what you need to know about the part you want before you call. In their defense, they do have a good return policy, 6 months, no questions asked.

Hey, I am not really trying to slam a vendor, we need them all. Just a word to the wise, use them, buy from them, just know what you want. They really are good people, just have a unique policy.

What scares me is they do sell rebuilt engine parts.

Wooosh.

There, I feel all better now, or worse. Don't like the negative thing. Need a fresh pot of coffee.

Even so...

I ordered an interior kit for the TR8 and somehow got the wrong shift boot. Over a year ago. And lost the receipt.

"No problem," I was told, "just send it back with a note and the order number" (which they looked up and gave me) "and we'll send you the right one."

Bill,

What do you need? Maybe I have a spare that I can send you.

For what it's worth:

I stopped purchasing from them a while back.
Too many parts broke apart during initial
installation or were machined to Indian or
Chinese threads and diameters.

I had to pay a machine shop to re-thread a
VB temperature sending unit, for goodness sakes.

Hey Paul,

I could use some spare parts for the Crypt
Car.... if you have any laying around.

1. Let's see- Spare Engine block and head?
I've got new carbs and new manifold and new
dizzy and new alternator and new radiator
and new wires, new dash and all new switches.

2. Transmission? I have already installed new
oil seals so don't send them.

3. Shift Lever? They don't sell the lever anymore.
But I do have a nice new PO Walnut TR knob for shows!

thanks, I'll be looking for the wooden crate to arrive.

Years ago my brother had a Healey in the shop that they had just done a fresh resto on...but the transmission wouldn't work (one part they didn't redo). So they ordered a rebuilt one from VB and had it FedEx'd Next Day Air so the car could leave for a national event.

Fast forward two weeks and it was time to ship the core transmisssion back to VB. My brother's secretary was given the task of getting the unit shipped back to Kansas. She called VB about their core return requirements and they told her you MUST return ship via the same carrier that originally handled the new trans.

So she air freighted it back (a core mind you) and the cost was $800.00!

Sorry, cables been out. I'm on a way too slow dial up, so I'll have a smart answer for Dale tomorrow. Night-night!

I live less than 5 miles from VB, and have not had a lot of luck with parts I bought, (and had to return). They are parts sellers, just another part of the Long Motors Corporation, and VB is just part of the business. They are not British car hobbiest's, and I've found out they know nothing about the technical aspects of our cars......

I purchase most of my supplies from The Roadster Factory, Moss, or my local O'Reiley's Auto Parts.

I have had the most luck with Woody Cooper, Ted (TSI) or Scott out in Warren Ohio. VB just seems high priced and expensive shipping, TRF seems pricey and even though I just live a nice ride from them I rarely find the trip out there worth teh drive

Dale, you have to have a spare parts collectors paradise down there. I can't imagine any part left that you haven't replaced, at least once.

BTW, did you get the brake lines from Dean yet?
