I need a quick tutorial on Whitworth wrenches

1951 MG TD, 9/16 isn't exactly right and 13 mm is pretty close... When is 5/8 not really 5/8? Can some one give me a five cent tutorial on Whitworth tools and sizes? This is my first TD. My 67 Midget seemed absolutely normal. Which ones can I absolutely not live without? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Sid - my TD came with a set of Whitworth in the tool box in the engine compartment - did yours? If not, British Tools (up at the top of the page) sells some pretty good, inexpensive ones - & they're usually real expensive

I can't explain it except they're about 1 size off.

ONE size??? I have a Snap-On combo BS "ring wrench" I hand over when one of the GarageWallahs shows up and wants to "borrow" some tools... 7/16-1/2, and they're HUGE compared to SAE equivalents. The ~look~ is PRICELESS! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

mehheh... a simple phone call ahead of time would save them a LOT of grief... Mainly induced by... err... well, ME.
