GT6 GT6 Convertable for sale up here !

Don't remember seeing somthing like this on the WWW before, but this car is for sale up here in Toronto. I had a quick look at it, pretty nice, and the dealer says it was traded in by a member of a Triumph club and that he made the design change on it. I thought it was a Spit and the listing was wrong, but it isn't.

I've heard of this conversion but never seen pictures of it. It looks very nice... but I don't know about $7k nice.

Seems a little fishy to me.

Are you sure this is not a Spit 6 conversion. I have seen many GT6 engines installed in a Spitfire. Big problems if the suspensions are not changed!

Also,I was wondering why if the fellow went to all the trouble to take the top off a GT6 and install a convertible top, and not remove one of the two rear view mirrors from the drivers side.

I believe the dealer loves this car way too much...$$$$.

Of course there is always the possibility that the DPO put a Spit tub on a GT6 frame, which actually makes more sense.

I'd sell our GT6 for $7k Canadian (but don't tell my wife... it's her car). When the lister said that the owner made the "design change to it", I assumed it was the Spitfire tub on a GT6 frame conversion.

It's Canadian dollars, $6,900C is about $5,600 US at today's rate.

Fabricating a GT6 into a convertible is not feasible at all. Such a conversion takes much highly detailed and delicate welding and fabrication.

But if it's a well-done Spit-6 conversion (with the proper GT6 parts in the right places), I'd say $5-$6,000 U.S. is a heck of a good deal if the car is in decent condition.

I'd pay $6,000 for a good Spit 6 in a heartbeat, right now. It's the best car Triumph never made.

And, it's worth a closer look.

I'd say its a GT6 with a spitfire tub on it. Thats how I'd build a Spit 6 is I could get my hands on a halfway decent GT6. The really ought to take one of his mirrors off of the car though, that looks rather stupid.

My guess is the dealer knows nothing about these cars and thinks the "flip front end" is the design change.
I would bet its a Spit6, based on a Spitfire, the second mirror probably was on the GT6, so when he put the GT6 bonnet on to clear the 6 cylinder motor he ended up with two.
That doesn't make me confident about the rest of the workmanship, what did he do where you cannot see the mistakes???

Well, the photo isn't very clear. It looks to me like it has a MK1V rear end.A GT6+ bonnet and valance and doors.A few other items also, but thats what I see. I have done a few of these conversions, who knows what they are worth, but I know I would'nt do one for $7000.oo.

ive seen MANY MANY of these cars where only the bonnet was changed..... most are still 4 bangers, though its very easy to bolt in all the gt stuff, only the radiator and starter fitting need fabrication. Everything else will bolt in if you take the right parts off the GT.

as for modding a gt body to a convertable, it would be very easy to do IF you had an entire spit sitting there to cut, it just wouldnt make sense.

My old TR-6 engined spit is sitting long neglected by the gent I sold it too if anyone is insane enough to take it on I'd be willing to put them in touch with him

its a 2.5l block and head competely fitted up as a 2.0l gt engine and installed in a 1980 spit. with factory hardtop. I havent seen it in a couple years but it was inside a garage when last i saw it. The engine was knocking but still turning when last run

We have a demure 60+ yo lady in our club who swears by her MGBGT. She says that she would never have a convertable.

The reason - The car is not stiff enough to go fast in the corners.

She wouldn't see the purpose of turning a coupe into a convertable.

what else was done to your spit besides the tr-6 engine does the new owner live in marland also thanks
