Brakes and Speed Bleeders????

They work well if your brake system is clean, but can be problematic if there is debris from old seals/rubber hoses in the lines.

shouldnt be a problen then. I renewed all the lines, M/C's, and Hoses through out. Plus Ive flushed the system and use only Racing Blue. I change the whole system once a year and was hoping these would make it a bit easier.

I tried them and had some problems with air leaks around the threads. They come with a sealant on the threads, but after one tightening cycle they began to leak until I wrapped a turn or two of teflon tape around the threads. I finally went back to my home brewed vacuum bleeder and standard bleed screws.

I put one on my slave cylinder, made bleeding the clutch a piece of cake in that tight spot. Hooked a rubber tube from the bleeder to a jar and pumped the air out very quickly and easily.

I'd like to get a few, getting a helper to bleed is getting old. I've used a piece of wood to hold the pedal compressed while I go close the bleeder...not the best way built a home pressurizer, too much hassle. Thought I'd try just one each of the two sizes needed and see what I think. Can anyone confirm these numbers; front caliper and clutch slave= SB3824 and rear cylinders= SB1428

I saved this information. Perhaps it will help.

Speed bleeder sizes:
Clutch (all spridgets) 3/8 x 24
Disc brakes 3/8 x 24 front drum brakes 3/8 x 24
Rear brakes (1 piston 1/4 leaf springs) 3/8 x 24
Rear brakes (2 piston wheel cylinder, semi eliptical leaf springs) 1/4 x 28

Those seem to jibe with the SB numbers if the first 2 digits and second pair of digits correspond: 3/8 24 = 3824 and 1/4 38 =1428. I'll see if they're available off the shelf at a parts store a minute.

Found some at an Advance Auto, Dorman Help! brand, part #12701 (carried by others, like AutoZone I think) These fit my slave and should fit the front calipers. 2 for $10. I popped one in the slave, clear hose to bottle, pumped the pedal, watched a few air bubbles fly through, then nothing. Pedal felt good so on went the wheels and I went for a ride. Not bad for Dec. 30 in Michigan! 28 degrees, didn't bother to put the top up, coat hat and I was off. Forgot gloves though so my steering hand turned red. Very cool to get her legs stretched, I had rust on my rotors, that's just not acceptable.

PS instead of a 7/16" wrench to turn, it's a 3/8". So I put one in my vise and bent it so I can turn through the access hole.
