Boot Lid rubber seal

I was planning on using 3M weatherstripping sealant to glue the seal to the boot lid. Anyone have a better suggestion?

Hi Lin,
Just another other bit of advice that you likely already know. When you install the seal, compress it into the corners. Make sure that it isn't stretched anywhere. If your particular model has hinge attachments in the seal area, you may have to cut holes in the seal to go around any bolt heads. The thin portion of the seal goes inboard to clear the inner shroud lip.

Hi Lin,

I used contact cement on both surfaces and it seems to work well. I started by mounting the middle of the seal first and worked both ends around till they met, then trimmed the excess from each end so the seam is right in the middle of the boot lid near the lock. If you apply whatever adhesive carefully it doesn't matter what color it is .. you shouldn't see it.

BTW, if you trim it just a bit long .. 1/2" or so ... then the rubber will compress and the seam is tighter.

This is also a good job to have an extra set of hands to keep the seal from adhering to itself or sticking to other things. My DW helped and it only cost me a nice dinner out. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bow.gif

Book Mark, Means that the two ends exactly match when placed together.
