Bleeding BJ7 brakes

I have a BJ7 without the servo.

Using the Gunson Eezibleed system, should I be able to get the brake fluid out of the rear brake bleed nipples by just opening them up.

I ask this question because I can not get fluid out without pumping the brake pedal, and I do not think that there is a brake compensator in the line.

I had a problem with the Gunson in that none of the supplied caps properly fit the reservoir and I ended up blowing the cap off and spraying brake fluid all over the engine compartment.

Also be very careful to use very low pressure, like say, 5 lbs.

If you haven't yet bought - what about the MightyVac?

Thanks Steveg

I have bought a Gunson unit and have had it for some years, and tried to use it, but talking to a local garage man made me think, hence this topic.

Yesterday I did the most easy straightforward brake bleed I have ever done. And on a BN2 too. The owner stood holding the shop air duster gun onto the brake reservoir lid using a length of rubber hose to seal and with pressure set at 20 psi. I opened each bleed nipple in turn and gave the pedal a few sharp jabs to dislodge air bubbles before closing the bleed nipple. Rock hard pedal in less than 20 minutes, no fancy gear required and no shouting.

Andy.

I've had good luck putting the car on jackstands, removing the wheels and just opening the bleed screws in the proper order. The fluid flows out into the jar. Haven't needed to pump the pedal, let alone invoking the Dreaded Assistant.

Drums or discs Steve? I've never managed to get the air to come out of those downward facing bleed nipples on the front drums without a few jabs on the pedal. Think I'm going to fit a tire valve into an old lid in order to make it a one-person operation.

I have no problem using the Gunson Eezibleed on the front discs, I just can't get anything out of the back without resorting to using the brake pedal and that does not seem right, the tyre pressure is around 26PSI.

Formerly drums; now discs.
