Alfin brake drums

It was SC Parts:

https://www.scparts.co.uk/index/lang-2/lk...ldetailtop=-500

They're item number 25 in the parts listed. Oddly enough these are listed with the regular brake parts rather than with their site's competition components....

SC were taken over a few years ago by Limora, a German company, but they still trade as SC Parts.

I visited there Surrey location in September and was told that they had trouble in production and will no long be offered. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif Your only luck will to be find good used units. I do have a set that are attached to a early 4 hole 100/4 factory racing diff. PM me if you have an interest.
Cheers, David.

I'm sorry to hear that... I'd spoken to them the previous December (or around then) and been told they were working on producing more.

I was given to understand that these were intended for street applications and some people were using them more vigorously- rallying, etc. and they weren't engineered for it. The grapevine suggested the newer ones would be more robust and able to take the additional punishment.

But all that was rumour, and not from SC themselves. Take it for what its worth, if anything.

But their not bringing them back seems suggestive of problems....

That said, I've a friend in the local AH Club who has a set and has experienced no problems with them so I've taken these rumors with a grain of salt.

Perhaps you could reflect/remark on your experience with them....

I'd think an early, original set rather than the reproductions would be virtually impossible to find and extortionately expensive too.

Hi James,
For some reason they stated to me that the problem was with the bonding between the alloy shell to the steel lining.
Now, I know that the TR4 drums are being re-produced, and have fitted them to several TVR's, encluding one SCCA race car with-out any problems.
As for used drums, they are very difficult to find. The good bit is that if you do find a used set, they are usually in good order and where removed to fit disc brakes and had little use.
I do have a set of early 100/4 Healey...the drum with 4-5 radial fins.
Regards, David. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

Yes, this was a reason i was given about a year ago, that they were spinning the cast iron inserts due to using wrong alloy/production method, dont know if this was aimed at any particular manufacturer though
