How To Know You're A British Sports Car Fanatic

I'm at work at 5:15 pm in far eastern Maine, thinking of finishing up after a 10 hour day, and I just looked out the window. My TR-7 Spider is strategically parked so I can see it from my window. I noticed that the sun was out and remembered it wasn't that cold today.

When I checked the NOAA weather forecast, I found showers predicted for tonight and rain for tomorrow. Nevertheless, my first thought was "I can put the top down for the ride home."

That's how you know you're a British sports car fanatic.

You know you're a British Sports Car Fanatic when you look at the $60,000+ new sports and touring cars out today, and all you can think about is:
"My car gives more seat-of-the-pants fun!"

When you feel akin to any other LBC driver you see, so you wave.

When you see a late model Jaguar and feel sorry for them.

When you see a Land Rover and wonder if you should consider them in "the group".

The true LBC nut says "Top, top, we don't need no stinking top." People thought I was nuts driving the Spider around with the top down and temps in the 50s. I also found that in the rain, driving the Spider at about 50+ the cockpit stays dry /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Uh Jeff, what was your top doing up in the first place? The top has only been on my TR4 4 times in that 4 years that I've owned the car. Once when I bought the car, once when I fitted a new top, and twice for shows (that required the top be errected). /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

"Top, top, we don't need no stinking top." LOL I took the midget"s top completely off & Maggie's windows are relaxing in the attic-I use the pockets for important stuff like registrations-my "new" top has worn a hole in it from rubbing & vibration . I found that out getting to the battery! Randi /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

True LBC fanatic (or lunatic, however you choose to look at it)

Pulled up at a red light, next to a spanking new Corvette. And happy you're in your B instead of that 'vette.

darn I fit all these mentioned so far. But I think Darwin has us all beaten by driving his spitfire in the dead of winter without a top.

When you pull up to a guy in a new $85+K porsche and he gives you a thumbs up! (and this was when I was driving to the body shop, all speckled with primer, dull from sanding, no lights, no windshield, no chrome!)

Kinda interesting speaking of a $85K+ Porsche, the last time I pulled beside one he wanted to race me! This was when I had stock engine and exhaust... Talk about having to "compensate" for something!!

How about when you bug your wife incessantly for months on end to trade in her PT Cruiser for a new Mini "S". (technically not British). You bug her so much that she scolds you like a child in front of your friends. You say "Yes Dear" like a dog with it's tail tucked in. Then half an hour later, you start bugging her all over again. Your friends just roll their eyes.

Note: The above might make her sound like a mean person. She's not. She is the sweetest dearest person in the world.

Note 2: Yes, I'm going to send this link to her as I haven't bugged her about the Mini in almost 24 hours.

Walter,
I'm not a fanatic, I'm just crazy. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
I have cataloges and repair manuals in every room of my house. I read one to go to sleep at night and I read one while waking up in the morning. Some would say I have a problem. What's the problem, I ain't got no stinkin problem.
I got a LBC which is more than most people can say. Present company excluded.

Are you saying that having repair manuals in every room of your house makes you crazy? I take offense to that, I don't have a repair manual in the kitchen, but people still say I'm crazy.

Yes, Walter having a repair maunaul in every room make you crazy. Drivint a spitfire without a top in -20F. weather in only good clean fun. That's what Carhartt Jackets, stocking caps and ski gloves are made for. Oh, did I mention it was snowing at the time. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Re: How To Know You're A British Sports Car Fanati

How about this - but it could be true for any auto fanatic. How about lying on the cold floor of your concrete garage trying to get the lower radiator hose loose , while little dribs and drabs of rusty, ooey gooey 14 year old coolant are coming down your arm. I thought working on cars was supposed to be fun! Its a good hobby, but not for those who don't mind getting dirty and playing in a greasy sandbox.

Yep, had a real mess on my hands today. I didn't realize the engine would still hold coolant after 14 years. I drained it all out, and it got everywhere. It was still mostly "nuclear" green too, a good sign....

You know you're a true Brit car fanatic when you have more
cars than will fit in the garage, don't have time to work
on them, and continue to look for more! See my sig line.
