tach problem solved?

I finally resolved my tach problem by "gutting" it only to find what looks like a small forest fire. Typical for Montana. Now I have to find a good, reasonable rebuilder for this thing. I've heard it can be done at home but I'm chicken when it comes to micro soldering. It turned out to be + ground but will work if wired up right according to info I found on another site. Thanks, all for previous input! JM

Rebuilding the tach professionally may cost more than you are willing to pay. Perhaps contact Tony Barnhill on this forum and see what he has that he'd be willing to sell you as a replacement. Alternatively, MGB tachs come up routinely on eBay. If you do want to discuss rebuilding the tach professionally, the big three to Google for are: Nisonger, APT (www.gaugeguys.com), and Palo Alto Speedometer.

I could do it but, unfortunately I don't have the time now. I will be hard pressed to get the fuel gauges and senders done that I have promised. Yeah, you can find tachs for cheap on Ebay, but don't throw the old one out. Belive it or not I used to be a "certified" solderer in the military years ago. Had to take this NASA standards high reliability soldering course and all. I would not mind doing these smiths gauges and checking their accuracy if there was more money in it but right now there are just so many available cheaply that it is not worth it. Right now though, I am back to work and working more hours than I want to, but the show must go on or whatever.
