Well, I crossed over...I just bought a 1985 MkIII Jaguar XJ6 Vaden Plas...65,000 original miles, one owner little old lady car...dark grey exterior, light grey leather interior...5 of the most beautiful chrome Jaguar wire wheels you've ever seen....man, its a beautiful, big, old tank (well, it will when we rejuvenate the faded original paint)...I've always liked that body style & just couldn't pass it up.....its a long story that I'll share over a beer someday - but, suffice it to say, I'm gonna drive it till those wire wheels fall off!

Just got back a few minutes ago from getting the title switched into my name.....now I'm going to look at the TR6 Jerri found while I was out of town.

Postscript: 1969 TR6, solid red body except for a little rust in the passenger floor...interior's been open to the weather so long that the wood has delaminated...all instruments are aftermarket US hot rod ones; however, the engine/trans has been replaced with a Ford Pinto 4-cylinder unit.....YUCK!!

I hope it was at least the 2.3L and not the old 1600cc Kent motor! Still, it seems an odd swap.... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/confused.gif

Ahhh, the VDP version with the DAIMLER fluted chrome front & rear. Good choice, Tony. One of them is my next purchase as a touring sedan, since I can't seem to find a decent V8-250 at a price I can afford.
Yes, we need pics!

Well, she's been wearing the same coat of paint since she left the factory in 2/85.....so, Monday she's going to the paint booth for a fresh respray....I wouldn't want to introduce the young lady to society until she's properly dressed...& Jerri wants to clean the interior before we do anything with her.....I just want to drive her to a club meeting & park her with all the other Jags!

Photo's shortly

/bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/iagree.gif And don't expect to ever stay clean when you have any mechanical work to do on it. No matter how clean the car is, you will look like youv'e been wrestling pigs in slop when your done. Total pigs to work on but worth it when they are running well.

Y'know, I've always wondered...

Does Tawny Kitaen come standard, or was she an optional accessory?

Tony, this is not the dark side, this is seeing the light. The series 3 is a fine if a little cantankerous beast.Replace the rack mount bushings with the polyurethane upgrades. They last far longer, and improve the steering feel no end. There are a lot of upgraded factory parts,so check carefully when doing any repairs. One that comes to mind is the front crank seal. The new version is a much better part, but some vendors still sell the original version. If it has not been done yet, plan on replacing all of the underhood fuel hoses. Use 5/16 fuel injection hose, and all will be well. There is a swine of a hose in the very front of the cylinder head. Don't forget to do that one as well. Enjoy the beast. Once you have gone Jaguar, you will likely never go back.

Just bought a '96 Jaguar XJS 2+2 Convertible and I am loving it. It needs a few touch-ups on the paint and a new top. I'll be having a new top made in the fall and hopefully the paint at the same time. It sure is fast.

Never fear though, Agatha is my first love.

A fellow club member has a black XJS coupe. It keeps calling me, calling me, calling me. It looks like a British sports-muscle car. 6 cyl 5 speed. That is one fine looking car. The convertible doesn't do anything for me but that coupe, man....

My Jaguar book mentions that most of the earlier XJ6s did not have the leaping cat on the hood due to safety concerns. Did any Series I or Series II cars have the cat?

No mention of the leaper on the hood anywhere in the book - it talks about the different leaper badges on fenders but never mentions the hood...& there's not a photograph anywhere in the book of a car wityh one on the hood.

Interestingly, it also says no XJ6 ever came with wire wheels.

The leaper was not fitted to any XJ series car at the factory, owing to safety concerns. I know that dealeres here in the USA were fitting them to customers' cars, and charging handsomely for them, too.
