The "Lightweight" Jaguar E-Type.....why did they only make six??

In the early 60’s Jaguar only made 12 Lightweight E-Type cars out of aluminum, however they had originally planned to make 18 of them. The last six would finally be built some 50 years later.

This project was quite an accomplishment, but does it fall into the same issues with the Jaguar purist that the recent continuation Shelby Cobra's did with their enthusiast? Some true fans did not feel that they should have made more Shelby Cobra's and tagged them as new/old.

In this case, I think Jaguar did the right thing and it sort of finished the last chapter in the Iconic book to me!!

One thing with the Jaguar new lightweights to me is they haven't attempted to misrepresent them as anything other than completely new cars to the the 1963 spec to finish the run that was stopped 50 years ago. From what I've read Shelby initially claimed that initial continuation cars were partials that were never finished in the 1960s and were being completed at that time. Shelby's uncompleted cars ended up being "air" cars where only unissued titles had existed.

Continuation in a broad sense, I have no issue with as long as they're not represented as originals. OEM means they rank higher than a kit or replica for example but a Chevy built 63 split window made with all new parts in 2014 isn't quite the same as a 63 built in 63, for example.
