dual brake circuit on TR3 and steering coupler?

I am starting to think about my brake system on my TR3. I want to use a dual circuit and I have been looking at the overhung pedal assemblies offered by Tilton in the Pegasus and Speedway catalogs. Has anyone used one? Which ratio are you using 5.5 or 6.2? Has anyone tried making their own dual m/c bake setup using the original TR pedal box? How difficult was it?

When using a dual circuit, how do you select the size for the m/c bores?

I assume that when you switch to a dual circuit the 5 way with the restrictor on the lower front frame rail is no longer required, is this correct?

On more question for today. What is the correct size splinned coupler for the input to the steering rack? When I miked it, it looked like it would need to be a 36 spline 5/8" diameter. I can not find this size coupler anywhere. Should it be a 9/16"-36 spline? I don't have the original TR couplers (that are no longer available) since this is a TR3 going on a TR4 frame and I did not get a complete steering assembly from my donor frame.

Thanks,

Greg

I can't offer any specifics, but if I were to swap to a dual master cylinder system on a TR3, I probably use a TR6 system and adapt it.

Why rework when the Tilton system is an easy and clean installation?Pedals will fit in the foot well and you can buy them with the proper masters attached.

"""""""looking at the overhung pedal assemblies offered by Tilton """"""

"Also look at the Wilwood units....identical/interchangeable with Tilton older style. Less cost....look at Speedway Illus. and Circle track advertisers.

""""""Which ratio are you using 5.5 or 6.2? """"""""

Depends on your packaging constraints. If you have room use the 6".

""""""Has anyone tried making their own dual m/c bake setup using the original TR pedal box? """""""

Only if an off the shelf piece wont work. The plan dimensions of each box are in the catalogs. I suggest U read the Wilwood catalog...the Til. is hard to find.

""""""When using a dual circuit, how do you select the size for the m/c bores?"""""""

Depends on the caliper piston and w.c. piston area. (assuming disc/drum). Calculate..... or start out with 3/4" front and rear. Drums in back use a 10# R.P. valve next to the rear master. Floor mount box use a 2# rpv in the front.

Sorry to jump in so late; I had 'puter problems.

I didn't have a dual brake circuit in my '3 because I had a working hand brake, and this is (or was?) legal in some vintage groups. Never mind that I couldn't reach the handle once belted in.

Anyway, see the attachment for a photo of a dual circuit system using TR parts. The f/r bias is adjustable. Unfortunately, I disremember the car owner, but I can find it out if you want. It's a fast and good-looking TR3.

I am like Bill Dentinger, who says, "The more outside stuff you put on it, the less of a TR3 it is." Or something.
