Mystery Car

Got an email tonight from a gentleman wondering if anyone can identify this car. First link is to the general photo, second is to an enlargement of the car.

His email read:

"Please can you possibly identify this car. Photo taken late thirties/early forties.
Canon street Bolton Lancashire"

Is it an old Citroen?

Kind of fuzzy picture, but I'd say it's a Morris 10 from the mid/late 40s.
Here's a MORRIS 10

I'm voting morris, based on the other 2 pics... The standard has a dip in the beltline that I don't see in the mystery car, the windscreen looks flatter across the top of the mystery car, and the extra lights aren't there...

But, there's not enough detail in the grille area to tell for sure. Several cars of this era looked very similar with the grille being the defining part (along with a few subtle diffeneces in trim too.)

Well, there ya go - another reason why I stick with the post-WWII cars!

Based on the shape of the grill i would say prewar citroen

No, the body shape is wrong for an Avant, and there's no chevrons on the grill.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/iagree.gif That's why I am thinking Standard......the grill seems to be very similar, and the styling of the car is definitely British. The Traction Avant was longer, lower, and more stylish.

How about the second car from the right in your siggy? hehehe.
I don't know which one it is, but it's a cool pic. My first thought was "Austin" but what do I know?

It's a MG YB (or just Y series if I'm off on the secondary letter). Cool as heck car too!

You got it right, it's a YB. A 1953 in fact. Here is the full photo. Click the image to go to the web page about the car.

Don't believe its a Y-Type.....look at the difference in the angles of the grilles in the 2 photos & the bumper overriders on the mystery car.

The mystery car is definitely NOT a Y-Type. I was saying that Kenny was right about the car in my sig.

Just an FYI... Y-Types did offer overriders as an option. Mine does not have them but I have seen a few with them mounted.

Are you sure it's not a "Y" ?
After closely examining the enlarged photo, it is my belief that there is something draped over the grille of the car, like a coat or something.
It really matches the pic of the "Y" type. otherwise.

Like I said... Could be any number of cars without actually seeing the grille it'll remain a mystery. Ton's of prewar cars look identical without seeing the trim differences.
