TR2/3/3A Wire Wheel Conversion

With the pound/dollar rate being fairly favorable for those of us in the ‘States’, I want to convert my TR3A from 4” discs to 5.5 “ wire wheels. I am aware of issues with fit and will probably use spacers to retain the original wheel studs.
Has anyone had experience with the Rimmer Bros. conversion kit? At $1261 for five wheels with hubs and nuts it is much less expensive than other option other than alloy rims.

Depending on your car’s production date the spare tire cubby may not be big enough for a 5.5 inch wire wheel. My car is TS 42756 L and I am using a 48 spoke wire wheel as a spare. Wheel studs for the hub conversion are shorter than the studs used for a steel wheel. Make sure you check that out too. Now is the time to buy with the exchange rate.

For many years I used wire wheels on my TR4 that came with disc wheels. Rather than shorten the studs I used the widely available ¼" spacers.

That also allowed me to carry a disc wheel as my spare. Never had to use it but it would have been fine -- though of course it would have looked strange.

Wouldn't TR3A have 4½" wheels?

PS - If you do that don't forget to also carry 4 disc wheel lug nuts and a 7/8" wrench.

Geo’s spot on. I have done that several times. Unless you are planning to do a lot of driving, how about a good used set of adapters.

I purchased the Rimmer Bros. adapter kit and purchased 4 Wire wheels (15 x 5 1/2) from them separately (2 at a time to fit my budget). Purchase and shipping of the MWS wheels from Rimmer's is cheaper than buying them stateside (even before the rate of exchange went favorable). I bought the spare on eBay(15 x 4 1/2). The new MWS wheels are tubeless, but, the spare has a tube in it. I bought the spare tire by matching the wheel outside diameters. The 5 1/2 width wheel with an appropriate width tire (195/65) on it will not fit in the boot easily on a TR4
