TR4/4A TR4-4A Interior Carpet Issue

There must be trick to getting the carpet under the wishbone center console support?

So far, I'm not having any luck. My understanding is that the finished edge of the kit carpet piece for the transmission hump goes forward of the console support wishbone bracket--so that it's visible.

If I even dreamed of adding the insulating pad in that location it would be useless. No way that kind of clearance exists.

Any thoughts or advice would be great.

I removed the support when I installed the carpets...only took a few minutes, Are you installing with the support in place? IF so you might be able to remove just the 2 lower bolts and loosen the 2 top bolts to create a the gap needed to install the carpet.

You can also cut a patch out from underneath the feet of the tunnel insulation while the support is out to give you clearance.

So far, no luck. I can't get the console "saddle" bracket over the transmission hump with the new carpet in place.

I shouldn't have to remove the switch "plinth" for the dash switches, should I? It's also tight there.

I'm thinking maybe I need to cut away more of the carpet so that none of it impedes the "feet" of the bracket. It doesn't appear to be creating the problem, however, and I almost wonder if the fiberglass replacement tunnel cover the PO installed is too high.

The clearances seem bit too precision to accept as something British. They may have outdone themselves (or me) here.

Try to get in touch with Paul, (Brosky) or Bobby D about this they have experience with this and they even used insulation under their carpet and was able to get it to work.

Certainly an original oil-soaked fibreboard British tunnel wouldn't put up a fight, it was 'designed' to sag and conform as needed.

I cut away the insulating pad from that area, so it's just carpet.

I'll keep fiddling until, as usual, a break something and start over again from scratch.

I'd like an old oil-soaked fiberboard tranny cover right now.
