TR2/3/3A tr3 project car

I am looking to buy a tr3 project car about 30 miles from where I live. The body is just setting on the frame with the engine, trans, and diff on the frame. There are also boxes full of stuff. I am looking for suggestions on the best way to move it home. The boxes I could just take with me and someone suggested a while back that renting a U Haul is a good method. I am not sure and actually thinking about calling one of those car transporters, but the car is close by. Anyways looking for ideas

Might be worth getting a quote from a regular towing service. See if they will discount if you can have some flexibility in your schedule. I don't think a long-distance auto transporter would be interested, probably more trouble than they are looking for.

Thanks Darrell I thought it might be that easy too. My concern was the body it not bolted down and I thought they might find towing it a problem, and charge me stand by or whatever. I guess I will need to get a good working relationship with the PO and take my time. The thing has been in his garage for30 years. Incidentally, I saw a tr3 down on Vancouver’s Craigslist for 6K, but they only returned one email and we never worked anything out. Did you know the car?

If you belong to a Triumph club maybe one of the members has a trailer you could borrow. A guy in our club has an open flat bed trailer that he has offered to let members use when he's not using it. So that may be an option for you.

My car was in a similar state. The frame fit easily in an 8' pickup bed with the tailgate open. The body also fit, tail forward. The fenders were off the body but I think they are so thin it wouldn't have made a difference. It took 2 of us to handle the frame, and 3 for the body.

If you're buying a car in pieces, be sure to search the area for all parts and arrange to be able to go back & search a few months later once you've developed a list of what is missing. You can be certain there are parts missing, which can be solved with time & money. Just be sure to budget appropriately.

A rollback towtruck would be a good option if you can't line up a trailer, and have them strap the body down from side to side over the doors to make sure the body doesn't shift about.

You might look around to see who has a A A A card.....I know several here who have gotten the projects moved that way....and if they have the gold A A A card....I think it would be free! Slide type deck on the wrecker sounds like a plan. Take several ratchet type straps and keep it all together.....go early and have the loose stuff put in a pickup so you do not get dinged for stand by time! Fun project ahead for you! Love our car.
