TR2/3/3A tr3 front brakes hoses

Hi all has anybody purchased the front brakes hoses for a tr3 lately? I was wondering if they looked original or are they just a black hose. I am kinda embarrassed to say that the ones on my driver (since 1971) are the original. I suppose, I should change them out, but I have total fear of some of these aftermarket parts. Having said that, there is in my local area a brake hose shop that would create some from a template. Anyways, I did call Moss today and complained about those tie rod end boots. The guy claimed that he had never heard of that problem before. I told him I purchased them back in 05 and asked if they had a different vender now. He said they did and that they sell about 2000 a year so he felt they would be fine. Oh yes I did find the clamp for the brake line.

Have you considered Braided Stainless Steel Hoses? I understand those improve braking since they do not swell under pressure as the black hoses do. I certainly will try them when I go to the effort of changing out the lines. And don't forget the brake hose at the rear of the car. That one too should be changed.

The difference is subtle, but definitely real; just about compensates for the very slightly softer pedal caused by using DOT 5. I've kind of lost track now, but think I got these from Ted S.

Be careful that they are turned so they don't contact the tires, tho. And be sure you get the ones to match your braking system, the Lockheed (front drums) hoses are different than the Girling hoses; and I believe there is yet a different hose if you have fitted Girling discs to a car that originally had drums.

I'm thinking they were "textured" rather than ribbed?

Mine were more of a checkerboard pattern, but somehow I don't think they left the factory that way!

My original hoses on TS23677L were ribbed. Stainless braided at the moment.

Edit: BTW, I bought hoses from TRF a couple of years ago, and they were SLIGHTLY ribbed (made by TRW). Not as pronounced as the originals. I didn't use them because I wound up with Toyota calipers and needed different hoses.

The brake hoses that came with my TR3A in 1958 were black rubber with a textured exterior. The texture looked like cross-hatch on a 45 degree angle or like what you see on a stainless braided exterior. The new ones I put on in 1990 where ribbed with straight ribs from end to end (like straight knurling) on the outside of the black rubber hoses. I think I bought those from Cox and Buckles when they were still in Richmond-on-Thames. About 4 years ago, I replaced those with a set I bought from Roadster Factory. These were also black rubber with the same straight ribs from end to end.

No TRA or VTR judge ever took off points because my hoses didn't have the original texture with the "braided" look but I have heard it discussed.
