Time for an oil change: filter and jack stands

Being as it's too cold to be driving, it's time for an oil change on the new MGB. I found a list on the MGE of filter options:

https://www.mgexperience.net/article/filters.html

A subset of brands I've used before (I run a Wix on the Bugeye):

Fram -- PH16 or PH43
NAPA Gold -- 1068
Purolator PureONE -- PL14670
Wix -- 51362

Thoughts?

Also, what do I use in the front of the car for a jacking point for my floor jack, and where to I put the stands under the car?

Fram is fine.

Jacking point we use for lifting the front completely is the center of the cross-member, and a piece of 2x4 to keep the load spread a bit.

Jackstands under the frame rails or spring pans. We wrap shop towels to the top of the stands, BTW.

Thanks, Doc. Want to pick up a filter on the way home today, so good to have some confirmation.

The quality of Fram filters varies wildly and unpredictably. Lots of horror stories out there. Cut one open and you typically see inferior construction and less filtering media than bigger name brands. Personally I recommend K&N, Wix or Napa Gold. The K&N is nice because it has a 1" nut welded on, which makes removal very easy.

The Napa Gold and Wix are the smae filters too, just different paint jobs. But I have used Frams on several vehicles. Have heard the horror stories but they seem to be recycled and expanded with every go around. If you change the filters on a regular basis then a Fram should be just fine. I have yet to actually see where a Fram filter has caused anything catastrophic to an engine. Mostly speculation that they could.

Mobil-1 or K&N here. The complaints I've heard about Fram (other than the cardboard endcaps that people don't seem to like), is failure of the anti-drainback valve. I don't think that's on all versions of the Fram filters.

I'm hardly any kind of expert but I'd agree that if you change oil regularly (ie: often) any filter is better than none, but well-reviewed "better" filters are available for only a few bucks more.

A good (although sometimes old - last updated in 2008) read about how the different filters are made is here.

Yup. I can see snow on the ground outside my office right now. More in the forecast for the weekend.
