T-Series TF Battery Box Replacement.

Well, The fun begins, meaning I hate body work! But such is life. A lot of work getting the old box out without drilling the spot welds out. I used a special cutter that only takes out the inter skin weld. The old box is quite damaged by acid and a new one is on it's way. Have a couple holes to fill in, cut in by a previous owner for an unknown reason. At least I'm finally back to work on it. PJ

Yeah, it's a pain, but if it has to be done, it has to be done. Fortunately, I didn't have to replace the whole box; I was able to patch mine.

Yeah Drew, I know it pretty much already! Like I said, I hate body work, but when done I think I'm going to send the sheet metal out to be painted. We have a guy, way back in the woods that paints custom cars for all the guys around here and I'm going to see if he'll paint the TF. Excellent painter and he's very reasonable.

Steve, the box was beyond repair as the whole back plate was eaten up from acid, top lip gone and all. Good thing is, the metal on the old box is made out of is the same thickness of the body and I can cut out plugs to Mig weld in the two holes that shouldn't be there. Once done and ground smooth inside and out, no one will ever know the difference. PJ

I had a couple of those "holes to nowhere" to patch, too. Fortunately, I was able to find some sheet metal about the right thickness. I think my battery box survived because of all the greasy crud in it--the acid didn't have a prayer of penetrating that muck.

Not sure but, I think mine sat in a barn for close to twenty years before it was, (resurrected)?? Needless to say I use that term loosely, LOL. So what acid was there had a long time to consume it's surroundings. The car was in a wreck many years ago, far enough back that a new factory frame horn/dumb iron was put on the right front. The car had to be practically new at the time. I think the accident was caused by an engine fire and panic while driving due to hidden indications. The bonnet (used), is getting replaced, the side panels (new), the grill,(new). Thank goodness the two front fenders are ok, I'd be up a creek if they were shot. She's a money pit, no doubt about it, but I'm putting her back together the way she came from the factory, if I don't go broke first! PJ
