Hi,

Which tech manual(s) is best to have? Are the Haynes ones anywhere near as good as a factory manual reprint? The price sure makes it seem like the factory manual must be far better.

Are there any other books you guys recommend to keep onhand?

Joel, I swear by the Bentley books, and I have some of the original manuals as well. Never cared much for the Haynes, but some people like to have them just as a second source, or perhaps a better pictorial reference.

I agree, between the Bentley manual and this place I've been able to find almost anything I needed.

Nial-

That is an awesome resource. Thank you for posting that.

As for a regular ole tech manual to have it seems I should go for the Bentley manual.

Thanks,
Joel

Hi Joel,

The factory manuals and Bentley manuals are the best and most accurate overall, but the downside I've found is their consistent references to factory tools which you may or may not have access to. It is easy to find errors in the Haynes manuals, but they do at least offer alternative service methods for some operations which might otherwise "require" special service tools.

Case in point: you would never try to rebuild a Triumph TR6 gearbox if you only had a Bentley manual. The Bentley refers to at least 3 or 4 factory service tools for circlip extraction or bearing removal, whatever. Thanks to Haynes and the Internet, I've built two gearboxes without any of those factory tools. It's good to have the Bentley AND the Haynes.

Yes, forums like this one can help you more than any print manual! I like to have as many different manuals and resources as possible, and look for a consensus.

Best regards,
