Recently I've been driving the heck out my bugeye, and yesterday I drove it to work and found this letter in the car. Its absolutely beautiful, and I felt compelled to share. Gotta love these cars.

" A little bit of automobile loveliness can trigger an avalanche of long fogged memories.....1962 fresh out of high school, the summer of found me in jolly olde in Sprite or a 5 main Mini, grazing the shale rock of northern Wales where the pints were Imperial pints, I was being shown off as a friend from America and in stead of one of these '15mph slow' (see attached) the sign would say 'Deceptive Bend'. The long and often forgotten ways of under stating "spindle snap" at Laguna Seca or Port of Stockton....it is not often I pause to thank a car and you."

I wish this gent would have sought me out, I would have gave him the keys in an instant. This letter almost brought a tear to my eye, and is getting framed and put on the wall. When I get another 30 years on me, I hope I have not just the nostalgia, but the car as well. And what is "spindle snap'?

When my friend Joe goes to car shows with me we have a small bet as to how many people will come by and say they used to own a Bugeye.
I usually get at least five. Maybe i should take a pen and paper and say "Can I have that in writing"

That's the best former Bugeye owner story ever!!!!!!!!! Mostly cause he left the note. I've had similar reactions, but never a -written- word to prove it. The best I've had was an older couple tailing me for miles and finally following me into a parking lot. Before I could get out they were on me and telling me about how they honeymooned in Germany as a young Air Force officer and his bride with a new Bugeye. They were ecstatic to see a Sprite on the road.

What got me was that he took the time to sit in the parking lot in his car to write such a descriptive letter, with illustrations! Most of the time you get "nice car."

Great letter! He knows his stuff. The Stockton Port Races are hardly remembered anymore. Wish I could have seen them in the day.
