Rear Brake Switchover Question

I have sent off my master cylinder for resleeving to 3/4" for my front disc conversion on the bugeye.

I am also collecting parts to switch over the rears to the later brakes. I think I have everything sorted out as to the parts I need except for one item. It looks like the position of the levers coming out of the back plate for the parking brakes are at a different orientation than the original bugeye levers. (As per the parts catalog - I don'r have the parts in hand yet to be sure.) So does this mean the acuating rods that run parallel to the rear axle housing are different for the later brakes?

Thanks!

I believe they are.

I grabbed the entire hand brake assembly from the handle to the drums when I gathered my parts. Haven't started the conversion yet, though I do have my re-sleeved master cylinder ready to go, though.

Have all those parts you grabed been cleaned to bare metal and painted yet, heh.

Not yet, Jack. No access to a bead blaster.

The E brake rods are different but can be made easy enough with some 1/4" steel rod from a mason supply.
Heat up the end, beat it flat, drill a hole and put a pin in it like the original set up.

Bead blaster is not required Drew. Miss Agatha was done with a wire wheel and a paint remover wheel on an elec drill.

I'll have to try that, Jack. Grunt time is something I do have. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Frank -- how much of the later-style E-brake bits do you need to swap over? I've got the entire assembly on a shelf -- do I just need the rods from the brakes to the pivot on the axle?
