Quick question before I begin my first transmission fluid change on my 1959 100-6

Does the drain plug for the gearbox use any kind of washer? I don't see one described in the Moss diagrams but I don't want to find out I needed one in mid-fluid change!

Thanks!

The gearbox plug is tapered pipe thread--possibly the same as the two on the differential--and doesn't use a washer/gasket. I use teflon thread sealant on these and it seems to help prevent leaking. The OD has a fiber gasket.

I had a small leak from the transmission drain plug that I stopped with some thread sealant. I had never heard or seen of thread sealant before but read about it on the forum. I always used Teflon tape before which usually worked but I like the tread sealant in a tube better. I purchased it a NAPA.

Also ROB:
Be sure and use a single viscosity racing oil for refilling.

Still on drain plugs, but this time the rear axle. Before undertaking the trip to Victoria for our Australian National Meet I checked the oil in the diff. It was ok but ever since then it has had a small leak! I thought it might be the seal on the filler plug (four stud axle, so the plug is located in the nose of the diff). Last week I replaced the fibre washer on the plug but the leak persists. As there is no film of lubricant around the filler I am confidant that the filler is not the culprit. Could the drain plug be the problem?
Back on gearbox oil, I use Penrite Gear Box oil, 40 weight. I recommend this product. Are Penrite oils available in the USA?

Seals metal threads (no rubber or plastic) in oil, brake and fuel systems.
