Progress, air compressor

As some of you may remember several weeks ago I was given an air compressor. Five HP, 15 gal.

Well today I tore it down to see why it would only go to 25 lbs of air. Heh, piston rings, which are some kind of rubber stuff were shot. So I called the manufacture and ordered:

Rings, piston, rod, sleeve for same, two gages, cooling fan and shroud, a valve set, and an air filter. $140 gona have a new compressor next week. Really looking forward to it as I have never had one before, only so much stuff a GI can cart around.

Great Jack, it will come in handy, they are great to have, I miss mine.

BTW to answer another thread question a PB is a prewar MG.

Plastic/rubber piston rings? My compressor is an antique and I'm pretty certain it's got metal rings. If you can post pictures of your worn and new rings I'd love to see them... just out of curiosity.

This is something you may not want to hear but---
If your compressor is kind of older or rusty IN THE LEAST then it is REALLY a good idea to have it "hydrotested" where the tank is filled with water and then pressurized to about twice its max allowed pressure. That way if it ruptures then there is only enough energy in the tank to cause a "pop" and not a lethal explosion. Welding supply places usually can do this and it is really a good idea. A good tank explosion can spoil your whole day.

BillM IS RIGHT!!!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Might be just fine holding air at 25psi but above...... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

Get tank tested BEFORE you fire it up /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif
