TR4/4A Piston Ring Question

I'm installing 86mm Country liners and pistons CP868. The rings that came with were individually packaged as oil ring, ring #1 and ring #2. I would assume ring #1 would be the top ring and #2 the middle above the oil ring.
The thing is #1 and #2 appear to be identical. The only marking is XR8600 on both. That leaves a beveled side up on both. I’m in new territory here, does this seem right?

Richard - when fitted onto the piston, the top two rings (compression rings) are the similar ones; the bottom is the oil ring.

Far as I know, the top two rings are the same, but I don't know the "Country" systems.

I've bought two piston/cylinder sets. Both were County sets, with County pistons, but one came with Grant rings and one with Hastings. In one, the instructions were quite specific as to which compression ring went where, and which side was up. (I don't remember if the other was similar.) The markings were small and probably easy to miss, if you are not looking for them. The differences between the rings could be very small, so it's best just to do it precisely as instructed.

Thank you both for your advice. There were no instructions with the set. I've contacted Rimmer where ordered but it's late there so hopeful for a some answer by tomorrow.

I prefer the Hastings rings with the one piece oil ring. We had trouble with 3 engines using the 3 piece oil ring (scraper up and bottom with a brass squiggle separator in the middle) . I am not sure why but all three engines burned oil. Replace the oil ring with the one piece Hastings and no more oil burn.

I would not be concerned. Normally there is a difference, but both top rings do have similar jobs, like Tom says.

The rings that came with my last piston set had no instructions and no part numbers. One had a bevel (for the top), and the other just had a dot (also to go up)

Rimmer did confirm that the top two rings are identical however I think I will take Jerry's advice and order a set of Hasting rings. Appreciate the comments.
