Petronix ignitor for pos.ground BG8 only has 3.2 volt when cranking.

I have 11.7 volts at ing switch wire, 10.5 across coil, but only 3.2 volts during cranking. No spark with timing light. all grounds are good. Correct connections to coil.

11.7 VDC is very low. Where are you measuring it?

I would suspect either bad battery connections or high resistance somewhere. You might want to have the battery checked with a load tester. Most auto stores have them and will do the test for free.

It was measured at the ignition switch wire at the coil. New battery, I'll put a charger on it.

Maybe the starter is loading the Ve circuit down???

I have had exactly the same problem with pertronix in the past. Nothing wrong with the car. The problem lies with the output circuit in the pertronix. Pertronix know about the problem and will change it if you insist. They may try and tell you its your fault (grounded wire during installation, etc) but its not... If you bought from Moss or elsewhere I'm sure they will change it..

Maybe I should have asked before I wrote my first response but what exactly is the problem?

1. Is the car starting?
2. If so is it running okay or is it misfiring?
3. What are you using to read the voltage and have you confirmed the readings with another VM?
4. When are you getting the readings--Before starting, during cranking or after ignition?

problem solved! there was a bad connection from the cap to the coil. Runs great. Thanks for all the concern.

You mentioned a problem with the Pertronix circuitry. Do you have a statement of the problem and has it been resolved. I ask this because a friend is about to order a Pertronix for a negative ground 1967 BJ8 and I happened to mention your comments. What is your suggestion?

Ours is a 64 pos ground with a loose distributer shaft. Works so much better then points. Make sure the connections are good.
