TR6 No voltage at solenoid tap

Country flag
Offline
'72 TR6, built Sept '71.
The car quit at the end of the driveway. No voltage for anything. Battery is new, 12.67v, 12.5v at the starter cable connection. However there is no voltage at the ignition switch tap on the starter solenoid (white/red wire). Is there an internal fuse between the battery connection on the solenoid and the ignition tap? Also there is an unused tap on the solenoid that does have power. Can I use that for ignition power? I was going to a car show on Sunday. . . .
Let me know, thanks

I'm not sure I understand everything that you wrote about your situation, however IF the starter still works but you are not getting power to the coil to fire up the engine itself, then you could try jumping the coil by connecting the positive side of the coil to the WHITE wire side of the fuse that protects the green wire circuit...
I'm sorry if that doesn't apply to your situation.

Thanks for the info. The starter/ignition switch is not getting voltage. The voltage tab on the solenoid for the white/red wire is dead. There is a larger tab next to it that has voltage. Im thinking about using that one, do you think that will be ok? Only question is why the original went dead, though it is 50 years old. . . .

Correction, correction! The ignition switch gets power from the brown/white wire, which is connected to the ammeter. Could the ammeter have died?

checking the switch, it is ok, continuity to terminals and momentary to starter tab. Jumping the Brown/white to lights, radio and starter, no power. Jumping from the overdrive junction box (battery pos) to lights, radio and starter, everything works. So it must be the ammeter...
