More progress - WOW, I finally worked on my car!

So, the weather is sucky outside, and the kids were happy laughing at the idiot box for the evening. This gave me the opportunity to sneak down to the garage to work on my B.

Wow, I was able to trim out all the bad metal from the driver’s side battery box, and fit up a new piece. Just a little fine trimming and I might actually be able to weld it in place tonight!

If I can get that done tonight, look out. Tomorrow, I’ll completely remove the passenger side – it’s too far gone.

It’s been a while, but I promised myself I’d actually get something done on my car this holiday weekend. I FELT GREAT!!!!

If I keep this up, I might actually might be able to get out from under the car this winter and get started on the outer body work.

Nice Work.....I spent most of the day driving around on my pickup search.....Still fruitless BTW /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
The next 3 days will be spent installing hardwood flooring in the master bedroom.....My 78's are screaming for attention, so MAYBE if I am extremely lucky I'll get a chance sometime this weekend(once the rain stops).

Keep it up... I know how hard it can be, and how it can seem to drag on, and on...

But progress is good... onward to the Outer Body!

Re: WOW, I finally worked on my car!

Driver's side fitted, trimmed, welded, and dressed. Just need to fill one screw hole (used screws to hold it in place, and clamped in weld area) I found after dressing and just a littel trimming.

Life would be so much better if I had an automatic welding helmet.

Now, need to tear out the passenger side box.

Re: WOW, I finally worked on my car!

BTW, if anyone is wondering, there are exactly 51 spot welds that hold the right side battery box in place.

OK Guru's, what's the little metal box with a bolt up into it between the batter boxes? I took the bolt out expecting the box to be a cover plate for something, until I discovered it was spot welded in 3 places to the battery box.

I'll be calling TRF on Tuesday for a new box! Moss doesn't carry them, or I'd order from someone on the list.

After that, it's at least 51 plug welds to fill and dress...hurray! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I believe you are referring to the mount for the hand brake cable?

I got one of these from Harbor Freight. Not as bright as some of the more expensive helmets I've used, but it has served me well. I couldn't conceive of welding anymore without one.

Re: WOW, I finally worked on my car!

It works out that the cross-over cable for the 2 batteries was held in place witha clamp here.

BTW - I had to cancel my order from TRF and order from VB, was on back order with TRF-bummer. The VB uunit was BMH, so I was happy.

Now, ask me if I've installed it yet /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
